NEED HELP!!!!!!! a setup for my truck

im looking into getting a kicker l5.
my questions are:

1. can i use my stock deck?(have a 2000 tacoma stock everything)

2. what amp should i get?

any suggestions are greatly appricieated thanks:cool:
My suggestion is do it right or don't do it. Research a little more. Will save you the hassle of selling what you bought and all of that.

As far as amps go, I would do something that is stable down to 1 ohm. That way if you have your heart set on a dual 2 sub you could wire it down to 1 ohm. Or if you decided on 2 dual 4 ohm subs, you could wire those down to 1 ohm as well.

I would most certainly run an aftermarket deck. I just don't see why when they are not that expensive. Get one with 3 sets of preouts. Then again, I am not sure what features are on your Tacoma HU. Like does it have navigation and all of that.

Do your power run from the battery to the amp in 1/0 wire.

To me those things suggested are not necessarily futureproof, but it will be a good base for any system.

You would if you wanted to run factory deck.
So the L5 is dual 2-ohm coils?

so if i got an aftermarket deck then i wouldnt have to get one?

and the stock deck has cd and a tape player. its a different size from the ones i ussually see in cars. i dont know if you know what i mean but i can show you pictures if you dont.

the add just says 2-ohm

take a look at the add

You have to start somewhere.......//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You said the L5 sub is dual 2 ohm That means if you wire the coils together you can put a 1 ohm load on the amp. If you did this same thing to an amp that was not 1 ohm stable, it would get hot/go into protect/etc. Some not all.

Preouts are the outputs that will be on the back of the radio if you choose an after market radio. 99% of them come with one set of preouts, but most of the "good" radios have 3. There is one set for the highs, one set for the mids, and one set for the sub.

From the sounds of this reply, you have a lot to research. I would first try and get a budget for everything. Let us know what it is and the suggestions will flow. Many will offer you what they have, or you could price what they are offering versus the same thing new. Then you will have to get it all installed. That's the fun part.
