Alrite so I am finally going to ask for some advice...

I am doing a build asap with my Mountaineer (2nd gen explorer). I just had 6 12" RD classics in a big ported crx style box (above windowline) and now I am going bigger. I am going to really try and get a shop around here to fab me a bracket for a 2nd alternator. I already have a HO 200a knukonceptz alt for the Kicker 850.4 that I will be running my 4 sets of 6.5" Memphis PR components with. I want the second alt to be 300a externally regulated to charge 4 or more Powermaster 16v batteries, and I was thinking I would like to run 2 IA 40.1 at .5ohm 16-18v and get some serious power (15kw pretty much from what I have heard people say on this forum)

so a recap of the equipment thus far is

1 kicker 850.4

4 sets memphis pr 6.5 components (Should I eliminate the crossovers and run active off 9887?)

Alpine CDA-9887

Kenwood 7 band eq for easier tweeking in songs that require it

2 IA40.1 (.5ohm 16v)

I have 32 sq ft of deadener already in the car, going to get another 2 bulk kits or equivalent and double up on the roof and trunk area

My main question at this point is substage. I am moderately interested in competing and I know the exploders shine in street c with 4 12's but I am looking to do more than that install wise. I want to keep my back seat but think a wall would be nice behind there. I would build the box outside and slide it in to the truck so the amp rack and battery rack could be installed around it as well as the necessary trim panels.

My calculations so far give me 16.66 cu ft net before sub/port/bracing/45's displacement when using 4 batteries in the back oriented lengthwise.

I have much less if I make room for 6 batteries side to side.

Assuming I use threaded rods that might take up .25 cu ft, my 45's which would take .42, and four powerful 15"s would probably take up .9-1 cu ft. Leaving another 3.00 cu ft to the port (260 sq in , 20.3 in long). Gives me 13 cu ft.

Box would have triple thick 3/4 in mdf baffle and 1 1/2 all around everywhere else.

I don't know the max dimms of a street c box but obviously its much less.

I want the setup to be musical and I will tune no higher than 40hz.

I will compete in whatever the truck is eligible for for fun if I can, but I mostly want this to be for personal enjoyment.

So summing up...

What enclosure (wall or regular crx style) with 15kw...

What subs? (Looking for subs now to buy so pm if you have any that fit the bill)

Anyone do dual alternator on an explorer?

And are 40.1s the best choice for my application?

Biggest project I've done so far but I have the desire to do it so anyone with any advice feel free to chime in! Thanks

Best Regards,

Joe
