Here's the deal, having a hard time with the sub I have and want to figure what the best box would be for it and I'm waiting SQ with flat response --

I would be iffy about choosing that sub. How flat do you need it to be (to what frequency)?

I was thinkin about going bandpass...

I just want the sub to be flat up to about 200 hz, not that I'll play it that high, but I want it to mix well with the varied music I play.

I love the sub, the output is great but was boomy in the previous box, but there is no way that it should only have sounded decent up to 50hz on my lpf previously. I need to fix it. I think maybe the box was just too big..... It sounded great sealed but I don't have enough power to run it to its potential in a sealed box and honestly I am starting to fall in love with ported enclosures //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah...i see where your coming from...id rather eq it out then be limited by the enclosure

Yup yup, and the weird thing is above 50hz it sounds SOO bad..has to be the enlcosure.. I know this sub is capable of great things and the FR goes up to 2k.

maybe if you're really creative try to fit a Tline tuned to the subs Fs.

200hz? You don't want or need a sub to play NEARLY that high. I would think it to be easier getting a flat response to a lower frequency.

Well I wouldnt play it that high, I really just want it to be flat up to 100 hz or so, it'll be x'ed at 63 or 80 if I can get smooth response at those freq.'s.

Would a larger than ideal box be more likely to cause boominess or a smaller than ideal box?

Larger usually sounds a bit more boomy...I had my old RE SX15 in 5 cubes as opposed to 3-4. It was tuned to 35hz with 3 aero's and dropped wayy lower than setups I've had before tuned to high 20's.
