Need advice on amp integration

I have a Kenwood deck and 4 Alpine 6 1/2"s in my panels (Camaro). What I wanna eventually do is put 2 6x9s behind my seats and have an amp powering them, but that's besides the point.

What I wanna do now is just power my 4 Alpines with a Kenwood 640 watt amp (don't have an amp at all right now). Should I get a 4 channel amp, then? And also, will they sound that much better?

And when I do decide to put in 2 6x9s, how would I hook up the amp then? If I had a 4 channel amp, would I hook it up to the 2 6 1/2s in the back and the 2 6x9s and let the deck power the 2 6 1/2s in the front? Would that sound good?

Thanks a LOT for any input guys. I appreciate it.

Not sure about how many 6 channel amps there are but that seems to fit you the best. A 4 channel amp will work perfect for 4 speakers, but with the edition of the other 2, you kinda stuck. I wouldnt recomend amping 4 speakers and using the HU on the other 2, the watts will be way different resulting in difference loudness's etc. Someone might know of a 6 ch amp, otherwise you need a 4 channel, then a 2 channel when you get the other speakers. How are you sure you wont like just the 2 speakers? I only have a component set of speakers and love them, ever consider components? Get back to us... well be able to help ya out...

ps. amping speakers will make them sound a he*l of a lot better!

The thing is, I work at Best Buy and we get crazy *** discounts on car audio stuff. So I have to stay within what we carry, and I don't think we carry any 6 channel amps. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

That does sound like a good idea, though. Just getting a 4 chan amp and a 2 chan for the 6x9s.

I just really feel like I should get an amp for my 4 Alpines, cuz I don't think they're sounding nearly as good as they could.

LOL, I **** at this stuff. Thanks a lot, man.

Oh, and do you think I would have a decent system if I put everything together that I'd like? (that being my Kenwood deck, Alpine 6 1/2s, Kenwood 6x9s and 2 amps)

I don't want a lot of bass, so I don't think I'm gonna go with any subs....unless you have something to say about it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Well if you get mad discounts you could get a 4 channel then if u need a 2 channel get a matching 2 channel. Speakers really do sound tons better off an amp. I'm not aware of any reason to not mix brands of speakers as long as their RMS is around the same (they will be running off the same power amp). So say the kenwoods are 80 watts RMS, and the Alpines are 85 watts RMS, you should be fine. If you have the room, even 1 10" sub will add to the fullness of the music. With the 6x9's and 6 1/2's youll have a nice low end, but nothing like what a subwoofer can give you. For subs, name what you carry @ your best buy, cause some of them im sure arnt the best... hope that helped..

Um...as far as I know, we carry Rockford Fosgate and Kenwood amps....maybe Kicker too. I don't know if Sony makes amps, but we carry a lot of Sony car audio stuff.
