Need guidance and advice for stereo deck

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice. I just picked up a '99 Jeep TJ that came with an old Dual single-DIN CD/AM/FM stereo and an amp with two subs in the back. The Dual stereo only works occasionally, and when it does, the volume either jumps all the way up or drops all the way down for no reason.

Since it’s a Jeep, I want a system that won’t attract too much attention or be at high risk for theft. I had an idea, and I’m wondering if it’s a bit crazy. I looked up the OEM radio for this Jeep, which originally came with an AM/FM/Cassette player with two 7-pin connectors on the back. I noticed that some other Chrysler OEM radios from around 2002 have AM/FM/CD and cassette and also have two 7-pin connectors, with an option for a CD changer.

Am I out of my mind for considering installing one of these OEM CD/Cassette radios? I found a company that sells a Bluetooth adapter with a microphone that plugs into the CD changer input, allowing hands-free calling and streaming from my phone. From my research, it looks like I might need a line-out converter as well.

Or should I just get a new stereo and call it a day? I love the retro look of the old radios and am not a fan of the flashy colors on newer decks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

1 vote for new deck. Many have a blackout function for the screen, and some allow you to select a screen saver from an external source. If you really want to go the retro route, there is a company called retrosound that may be able to help.

And they actually still make them, it seems.
Do you recall the fake faceplates and blackout covers? Or that Alpine with the retracting faceplate?
