Need a new TV...what to buy

That's horrible logic IMO. If you were running a company and you would make more money by moving a plant why wouldn't you do it? Companies are run to make money, not to supply Americans with jobs.
Without the outsourcing of jobs the cost of goods here would be much, much higher. Well, either that or the large companies would be less profitable.
they aren't an american company so i could care less if they make a profit.....they put over 20 of my friends out of a job...i'm willing to pay more if it helps local people stay in a job so they can support their family

Viewing distance from the screen, not the size of TV's you've previously owned. And unless you are strapped for cash, I would take an LCD or plasma any day over a DLP TV.
what i'm trying to say is that i don't think it matters that much...its a 15' by 17' living room but i usually lay on the couch from about 10' away. I'm not strapped for cash, i just don't want to pay like $3000 or more for a Tv that looks pretty much the same as a $1200 tv.

If you're 10' away you cannot notice the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 50" screen. http://www.carltonbale.com/2006/11/1080p-does-matter/

I would recommend the Samsung PN50A450, or PN50B450. I paid $960 with tax and a 3 year warranty from a local company, Jetson's. You can probably find it for $900 shipped if you do a bit of looking online or in sales papers.

Plasmas are attributed for better colors.

They've gotten better too so they don't die in 2 years like the first ones did. And I'd go 1080p regardless what anyone else says because who knows what plans you might change for the future.

I like the samsung b550 or 650's the 46'' 550 can be had from amazon for around 1100 shipped. If you are not going to be watching blu ray thats the best bang for the buck tv out right now.
I got a 50" Panasonic plasma 1080p for $1300 clearance at Circuit City a cpl months ago.

So no, that's not the best deal that samsung.

And for the record, everyone who does HT like we do car audio recommends Panasonic if you go plasma

Looking to buy something in the 46"-52" range. Haven't decided between LCD or Plasma (LED is just too much loot right now). Must be 1080p and not looking to spend a mint. Its been awhile since i shopped for TV's so i don't know whats out there...not really looking to buy online either unless i save a couple hundred bucks by doing so
This one I would get

But Frys.com has great prices. Not sure how far Fishers Indiana is to you, but if it's not far it might be worth making the trip.

nothing wrong with samsung plasma's. especially this years new B series. they have made huge improvements this year. my brother has a 50A550 and i just bought a 58B560 after spending some time watching his. after some time with each it is obvious that they made some big improvements this year. many professional reviewers and professional calibrators agree that the Samsungs offer the most realistic and accurate colors. the blacks aren't quite as black as the Kuro's but acceptable at their price point.
