Need a little help

All I have is a head unit, no amp, 2 4" in the front and 2 6x9's in the rear. They sound find and run strong till I turn the car on. While engine is running the sound gets distorted as if the speakers were blown and the power is weaker so I have to lower the volume. When I shut the car off it sounds fine and quite loud. Does anyone know what the problem could be? any help would be great

sounds like you're getting alternator whine through your system. Check your head unit's power/ground wires.

What head unit are you using?
