Need a GPS , which to buy?

Well it looks like the Garmin nuvi 205 is the best entry level GPS unit out right now. Bestbuy has it online for $180 shipped, from various forums and websites I read, it finds its location faster than other units, has a better screen, works with Google Maps, has lots of free goodies on the garmin website to change your "avatar," to like a old WW2 fighter plane or a police car, shaded elevation is a really cool feature too, gives a more 3d look especially in the mountains of North Carolina.

I need GPS for my car because I've been driving everywhere recently to lots of unfamiliar places and it sucks getting lost and asking for directions, I would prefer to have a one time purchase, non subscription type of deal, less than $200 would be awsome as I'm quite poor //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif .
Whats the difference between Tom-Tom and Garmin, also I heard about the new Magellan... I've been checkin out the Navigon 5100 GPS and like its features

But the thing is it can only be had online, not in stores at BestBuy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif . I'm looking to purchase today or tommorow.
I don't know if being compact is a must, but you could check out Garmin Mobile PC if you have a laptop. Can be had on ebay for about $50 plus shipping or at Best Buy, etc. for about $100. They also have a version of the software for GPS-enabled phones. Check out Garmin's website to see if your phone is compatible
