(the 9.6v has more torgue than the 12v or at least used to and is lighter)I would recommend a Dewalt. Depending on what you are using it for I would say you could most likely get by with a 9.6v if you can find one and should be around that price. I can honestly say I have never seen a panasonic drill.Best drills around are Bosch and Panasonic.
After that, Porter Cable, Dewalt, Milwaukee, Hitachi are decent.
After that, don't bother.

I've got one in my garage! I'd never heard of them before either, but it was recommended by a friend that works at a cabinet making shop. That's the only brand they'll use there. So I bought a 12v one on Amazon and it's been great for the last year or so that I've had it.I can honestly say I have never seen a panasonic drill.
Not such a great deal when you have to buy a separate battery for it.
