I'm just getting started on the install... but i went to test fit the head unit and it appears to be smaller than DIN size??? is this possible? its also ridiculously long, making it stick out, and not be flush. i can resess it into the dash, but im not sure about making it fit flush. the trim ring just seems to be too small in both width and height! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

does anyone have pictures of some CD700's installed? i just did a cd500 in my other car and did not have any issues //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif -heath

ok so with it in the dimensions appear to be ok, besides how much it hangs out. That apparently is the REAL problem. they designed it to NOT sit flush, which really irritates me as there is plenty of room in back to allow it to be flush mounted.

So now my question is, has anyone FLUSH MOUNTED one of these decks. It looks like ill have to cut out the lip on which the cage is supposed to rest, and ill loose the mounting surface for the cage. anyone got any tips? here are some pics

pics of car too those are secks.
i promise i will upload some photos of the car. this is a project car that i am building form the ground up... i disassembled the car down to the chassis and am upgrading everythting as i build it back up. I have a 3rotor engine that is going in it (larger than the normal FD engine) and the goal is a 600HP street car. if i listed everything im doing to the car it would be a 5 page long list... but i am trying to leave no stone unturned.

as far as audio the setup is as follows

-New sound deadening rubberized undercoat sprayed under the chassis/wheel wells

-second skin damplifier on every surface i could get to

-sound insulating foam injected in the floor rails and A-pillars (still have to do that)

-Nakamichi CD700II head unit

-Polk SR6500's in front and back (front set up as separates, rears as coax) using the polk x-overs

-Audison VRx 4.300 amp

-Stock bose rear wave sub *unfortunately* (I know im gonna take alot of heat for this one... but I dont have room for a dedicated sub/enclosure and it has to look stock! all im looking for is some low end fill... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif i cant think of any other decent solutions at the moment )

anyway, ill get some pictures up. but first... how the hell do i flush mount this stupid head unit !! -Heath

you could do a false floor to hide everything and keep it looking "stock"
but then ill loose the tiny space that i have left to carry anything in the car. the only other space still left is the passenger footwell //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif most of my trunk is already taken up with the audison and an optima... plus its minuscule to start

ok here are some preliminary pics. i spend a few hours fiddling with the mounting lastnight. the cage is staying but i clipped the latch hooks for the headunit, and removed the side clips on the HU. I also trimmed the bezel ... i took off 7mm. my plan is to drill a few holes in the cage and screw the cage directly to the HU. We'll see how that goes tomorrow, but for now it at least fits. Now to drill the holes and get a small ratcheting 90 degree screw driver. its gonna be a ***** to remove down the road. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Now to find a place for the external processor/preamp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
