Hey all... I sold my type X a while ago because I needed the cash, and I bought another one (used) for 160. It came in a box that fits the spec for an alpine 10 inch type X, looks about .75 cu ft. Anyways...after listening to music with it, it seems to sound kind of crappy, some songs were fine but some sounded terrible.
I am using an autotek sx-777 for now (until I can get another mm1000.1d) to power it. This thing has a total 1080rms through 7 channels, 420 of which is for the sub channel at 2 ohms. The power wire is 4 gauge, the ground is 8, and the car is stock setup (no new alt or dual battery). Honda civic 2000 ex, i believe the alt puts out 75 amps.
Anyways...I took the sub out of the box and noticed only ONE voice coil was hooked up...am I wrong or does this damage a sub to hook up only one voice coil? well after being real pissed off I paralleled it and put it back in, but it still doesn't sound as great as I was hoping. Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem? It sounds great at lower volumes like around 30/60 on a pioneer deck ( I use the 7600 right now) but above that sounds terrible, even though the speakers still sound fine. On some songs though, it'll do 40/60 perfectly fine, but TOO many songs sound crappy, on both bought cds and mp3 cds.
I was thinking it might have to do with the ground wire being too thin for what the amp takes, what do you guys think?
Thanks for any help...
