My New Midbass Idea!

Not to mention, your first comment on the subject did not mention anything about speaker cone diameter, you simply said "mid bass doesnt start going stereo until about 200 hz". Keep squirming. I gave you an easy out a few pages ago, you should have taken it

audioholic what do you suggest I do?
I would glass the doors for midbass drivers of your choice (alot of good ones out there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif). The nice thing about putting dedicated midbass drivers in your door (versus a midrange) is you wont need to worry about angling them towards you (as audiolife has akwardly pointed out). Just build them straight out from the door. Depending how your interior panel is laid out, it might be as simple as replacing one insert in it with a custom one.

Either way, Id rather compromise on the depth of the midbass I could accomodate rather than compromise on placement of the speaker(s).

i guess you are trying to say omni directional means nothing?. putting mid bass in a door gives it a signature to its location pretty easy you would feel it on your leg and if its coming from 2 locations where cancelation occurs its some problem. thats why i suggest going 2 way and leaving it at that but i know for a fact if he wants that 8 it can be set up as a narrow band bass/midbass driver no problem as his bostons would by more than enough have output to pull the 8" from the center. how? by having it make a natural center from the kick panel locations. once yo achieve that all i would do is play the staging drum track over and over again until it sounded realistic. for some odd reason people always assume im pulling their chain ask squeak9798 im not. lol only reason that wouldnt hold true is due to driver size being too large or resonance of parts of the car. the way i would set it up wouldn't neuter the bostons mid bass response either.

yuh huh crosses over home sub definative technology 8 to 150 hz still no localization until i crank it and get port noise on the wall (happens at 50 hz too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif ) plugs up port now not localized at all. lol here is a pic of the speaker works grand national (richards car)http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/eric_holdaway/detail?.dir=/4399&.dnm=b07e.jpg&.src=ph those are the mid basses they are behind the doors (if its localized wouldnt it sound like a party in the backseat? http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/eric_holdaway/detail?.dir=/4399&.dnm=12c4.jpg&.src=ph pics of the horns

The Buick utilized a 6 speaker setup, with two 15" subwoofers in an AP enclosure handling bass frequencies, two 12" midwoofers in the rear quarter panels handling midbass frequencies and two WaveGuides handling all upper frequencies

more info on the way alot more

By all means audiolife, go mount a mono midbass driver in the center rear of your car, then come tell us you cannot localize midbass stereo seperation below 200hz. If what you say is true, it wont matter, and all those SQ experts trying to mount midbass driver's in their doors could learn so much from you. You say there's no stereo seperation audible to the human ear below 200hz... Ive heard it, with my own ears, tonight, verified by the RTA sitting next to me. Keep squirming.

point being omni directional means its time dependant (wave corilation with the other speakers) he isnt going to be a meter off either kick panel is he? omni directional also tends to have less left to right information meaning unless its mastered to be right or left it isnt going to try to appear right nor left samething can be said with bass drums your subs would be playing). case in point is any of your sound system up?play the drum tracks on a staging cd i think you would be suprized what both sets of speakers play and what distingishes its movement . it isnt so much 150-and 170 and under you can tell that pretty much by watching both speakers move even though you are hearing prodominately one side

squirms squirms those arent spl trophies (most are iasca 2 are usac 3 others are hum drum non sanctioned local sq trophies and my web cam wont reach into the other room (alot of ribbons medals and about twice as many trophies). all from the days where an sq contest would draw 10-25 cars per class in 12 classes not 31 total in 7 classes) i know of a few cars that used a single midbass up front as well that sounded quite nice maybe didnt or wouldnt beat scott but how many really could? a system that most people coulldnt afford it? talking SERIOUS CHEESE that old firebird i had was about 22k in just the stereo/stereo performance. keep squalking i know it could work well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif want more proof ill be glad to scan you my old score sheets lol in 2 of those "non sanctioned shows" i beat 2 pro's one quilified for finals and were both in a higher wattage class than me. this was before i did any busness in car audio so i was no pro by any means but my installer was pretty good

just means i have no concept? lol i probably did a more viable test with my own ears crossing over an actual 8 inch sub at 150hz and the sub isnt centered in my room nor is it located buy my other speakers +6 feet if it was going to stand out like a sore spot why doesnt it? it doesnt to either pair of speakers i have b and w and some horned up wharfedales. its only on a 12db slope to boot

So those trophies mean my eyes, ears, and own personal RTA are wrong? Okay.
oh you have a mic hooked up to it? or just watching lights on an eq? lights on an eq that bob up and down in win amp and stuff are source measurement not output. also what scale are you using on what weight?
