At this point the wound has already been healing for 2 weeks. It has had a wound vac on it too, which is supposed to cut the healing time in half.

I know it has closed up a lot in two weeks, it's not near as big as it was. i just wish i had a pic right when i came out of surgery.

The wound actually goes in deeper where you cant see because my butt cheeks are in the way. You can see so much further inside at the top because they cut my butt cheeks away more.

But rest assured, that huge gaping wound hole goes all the way down further toward my azz.

Literally it ends like 1cm from my azz hole.

i didnt know how hairy my *** was until this situation.

they pack the huge hole with a black sponge type **** and then stick one end of a tube into the sponge.

Then they have to create an airtight seal over the entire thing making sure not to cover up my butt hole so i can still take a dookie.

Then once it's air tight they hook the tubing connected to the fanny pack which keeps a persice amount of vacuum on it at all times.

The tape they use is like super medical grade **** designed to get wet and stay on for like 3 days at a time. IT comes in big sheets like paper.

Let me tell you, having the dressing changed 3 times a week and having that tape ripped off is horrid. I kinda think thats what it would feel liek to have your azz waxed.

Plus the goal of the vacuum is to get the tissue to grow and stretch into the sponge. It fills in all the tiny little holes in the porous sponge without actually adhering permanently to the sponge.

So every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, at 9:30am i get to go to the "outpatient services" at the hospital and have all the tape ripped off my azz and the black foam ripped from my raw flesh it was trying to grow into.

this can be the worst part of all of it. Getting the sponge out, cleaning out the blood clots and repacking it with fresh sponge can hurt REALLY bad.

Then they repack it with a sponge and try to ghetto rig up some air tight seal around my azz that somehow leaves enough room to poo.

they leave it open because its your azz...not really that clean... healing it from the bottom up is less likely to get infected and it cuts the reoccurence rate by a whole lot.

Sometimes people get such bad pain right away from even a small one that they detect them early. Then a family doctor in the office, or even the ER, can basically just lance it like a big zit and give you some antibiotics. That's what happens to about 60% of people who get them.

For most people if they it comes back after lancing it, maybe a few times, they will probably try to cut it out and sew it back closed. But the rate of infection and reoccurence with that surgery is higher. IF that surgery fails, again maybe after a few tries, then they go to the surgery i had.

What happened to me is that it started small, an ingrown hair most likely, and then the body's natural defense is to wall it off in a little pocket. Well probably for years, mine would rupture and leak pu.ss inside without me knowing it. The abscess grew bigger and bigger and tunneled all over like happy little ants in an ant farm.

Then it just got bad and my body couldn't wall it off and isolate that amount of infected and necrotic tissue. So first i got real sick. I took antibiotics and got sicker. Then above my butt crack got swollen, warn and painful. The doc lanced it in his office and then discovered how bad it was and sent me to a surgeon.

Thinking back to the last few years, twice i needed IV antibiotics, strong ones, to get over being REALLY sick. Both times they called it "infection of unknown origin", but now i think it was my butt. One time i even remember my tailbone sort of hurting, but i blamed the crazy hard Korean mattress and having been laying in bed sick 4 days in a row.

The surgeon saw me right away and said he wanted to take it all that afternoon, in about 2 hours. He thought i was going septic and it needed to be removed as soon as possible.

So think about that... it started off as what i thought was a common cold...and it was....but it was due to my super weak immune system....then in only a few days it was so bad they cut off half my azz ;(
