My car might be a target...(security question)

Yeah, at least get something. tin cans on a string would be better then nothing. Alarms are not that hard to install. If you have installed your own sound system then you should be able to install a basic alarm. They can run from as little as $50 on up depending on how much you want to protect you car. If you want to go with an all out Fort Knox you may want to find a shop to do the install. If you must take it in to a shop look for a shop with a good reputation and clean showroom and shop. Some place with a lot of foot traffic. These guys see nice cars come in all day and I'm sure see better setups then what most of us have and could care less about our rides. Avoid at all costs the home garage shops or small back ally places. The plus side to installing your own is you can setup your system unlike any other and make it much harder for someone to disable it. Shops setup up every system the same and people know this. Hide the brain in a location no one would look and make it a pain in the a$$ to get to.

Edit:

Oh, and for the record, 9mm is a bad idea....

Go with at least a .45:*******:

Get one be safe than sorry. Theres nothing worse than goign outside to see a broken window or an open door knowing some punk motherfucekr got your stuff. Sometimes an alarm isnt enough but for neighborhood thieves it is.

just bite the bullet and get a alarm with a paging function. when it pages you, run out there and im pretty sure they wont **** with your shit again since they know your watching now.

let me ask you something...do you wanna spend a couple hundred on a good alarm? or do you wanna spend a grand (or more) on a new system...

Well I am for one not big on alarms. I had my shit ganked with a Viper (forget model but was expensive) and a bypass cheaper alarm. They still stole my car! If they are good enough and know what they are doing, they could steal your shit quick! Mine was gone with in 10 mins. I know because I was at work on lunch break sitting out in my car sleeping, then went in and one of the maintence men came in the warehouse and said, hey Jess, what are you doing here? I was like I am working, Duh! He goes, well did something happen to your car? I say no and head out and was gone in a matter of 10 dam mins with 2 alarms on it! If they want it bad enough they will get it being if they know what they are doing. My security is watching always where I play it and dont pimp the shit out your ride. My cutlass had 20's, Tv's and about 5000 dollars in the sound system and sometimes I was stupid where I played it.

I say since someone has told your wife to keep an eye out to take your shit out for a while, but still keep an eye on your car to see if you can catch them. Usually they will leave your shit alone. Sucks, but better safe than sorry. Good luck!

I'm going to call the insurance company later. I wonder if it would make my payments go down if I get an alarm. I already have full coverage, but I need to make sure all my audio is covered. My deductible is $500.

Also, call your insurance agent and lower your comprehensive deductible to the lowest one they offer. You might be surprised how little extra it costs. Also, make sure that they cover custom audio equipment, some companies make you schedule it, some don't cover it at all, some cover it all regardless. (Can you tell I am an insurance agent?)

And yes, get an alarm, preferably a paging one.

PS: LOL, I was typing my post as you were typing your last post. Yes, you should see a decrease for an alarm but i wouldn't expect it to be huge.

yeah. Thats why:

1) You tell them where you want the brain. Where you want the sirens, where you want everything.

2) Alarms are much more complex then stereos. Much more complex.

3) 50 dollar alarms ****. You need at least 2 sirens (so if they cut one it ain't dead) and a backup battery (so if they kill the battery it wont stop).

4) Ask them to bundle all the wires up and electrical tape them, then cover them in loom, then electrical tape them again. It's harder to cut when you have a huge fatty reinforced wire ball instead of tiny 20gauge wires all over the place.

i'm with state farm. They cover my audio stuff under "full comprehensible" coverage. 250 detuctable. Coolest thing was they paid for installation (which i did myself) so i got more money (and no i didn't cheat them, i told them i was going to do it myself).

I am an agent (and insured) of Mercury Insurance, a company that's in like 13 or so states.

I used to be an adjuster for State Farm (about 13 years ago) and at that time, they covered all custom regardless but you would need receipts (or photos) on an extensive system. Still, to be safe, contact your agent and confirm what the rules are in your state. And lower that deductible if it doesn't cost you too much.
