my car isnt worth fixing

2.3 billion doesn't sound good to you? yes, they are down overall. but they are recovering. without any government bailouts... my money will stay with ford.

a MISFIRE is an ignition issue.
A MISFIRE IS ANYTHING THAT KEEPS THE AIR/FUEL MIXTURE IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER FROM FIRING.

A misfire can be caused also by fuel or compression related issues, hell my friends contour had such a bad vacuum leak at the intake gaskets it would misfire badly and flash the check engine light.

a burnt valve does not allow the cylinder to create any compression(have you ever seen one?). I have never seen a burnt valve throw a misfire code because when a misfire code is thrown it is actually a resistance change at the ignition coil that the computer recognizes as a "misfire".
are you a mechanic?

Got my car back from the shop.

I have 3 cylinders misfiring. He said they checked the spark plugs and such and doesnt appear to be an igintion issue. He suspects its a valve/head issue. He replaced the transmission oil pan to hopefully stop the leak.

He didnt fix the misfiring issue as we agreed its not worth it. Among that, my other issues are that my car needs an alignment, power steering makes noise, belts squeak a little bit, exhaust system needs stuff done to it.

Of course I've seen a burnt valve. I've been an ASE certified tech for almost 20 years. Actually, the old Civic I was talking about earlier had a burnt valve. I might still have it laying around somewhere. You must not work on cars very much if you don't think a burnt valve causes a misfire code. The computer does not look at the ignition coil to detect a misfire, it looks at the crankshaft and determines if there is a misfire by variations in engine RPM. Read this article it explains what a misfire really is.
Exactly I've pulled the head of a 98 civic with crack in the exhaust manifold around the O2 sensor that caused the exhaust valve in cylinder #3 to be damaged.

high dislikes for teh tarus i sense? idk i think its actually becoming kind of a nice car personally. 25k nice... maybe not but old people will definatly be nice enough to let me throw 2 15s in the huge trunk they will be equipped with. think of that dude...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Alignment is $70 bucks (at least around here it is.) Power steering? Don't worry about it. Belt? They're like $15 bucks. Exhaust never needs stuff done to it.

Worst case scenario, a part falls off. If it's EFI, who cares? Just means it's louder.... unless you live in a state that does regular emissions tests. Then you're screwed. Florida stopped doing that, thankfully.

Find out which cylinders are misfiring.

If it's a V6, and 3 are, and they're all on one side... probably a gasket or something.

My car will fail smog when it comes time for it. California is real strict.

I have the money to buy a different car. I just hate to have to keep putting money into this thing when it isnt worth jack.

what is that a dodge in your sig? LOL no wonder you mad... you drive the shittiest truck in existence. what's even funnier is that you'll defend it as a great truck and pretend that you haven't replaced the transmission at least twice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
have you ever wondered why ford is the only big three company that hasn't gone bankrupt, accepted no bailout, and netted a large profit this year? probably not since no rational thinker buys a dodge truck.

I used to rock a 99 merc sable. It did the same thing but I used to hammer on that car hard because it was so homosexual and I kinda wanted to blow it up. How many miles you got on yours?
