My boss is freakin awesome!

I for one am a liberal Democrat and this post has my knickers in a twist!

Are you trying to tell me that printing money to re sod the white house lawn won't help this great country?

Are you trying to tell me that putting the whole nation on socialist style health care wouldn't be a boon? Just think of all the government jobs it would create and the nice people you would meet waiting at the emergency room with 60 hypochondriacs for 12 hours waitng for substandard medical service!

To you I say good day sir!

For those of you who don't know, i work at the UPS store.
So Saturdays are typically slower, we just keep the place tidy and pretty much make note of everything we need for the next week.

An African American woman comes in with a bag. Note, she is wearing an Obama hat and tshirt. Tells me she needs to send a package and needs it all packaged up and whatnot. I said not a problem, she hands me the bag and I take out a picture frame, inside of it is like 15 pictures of the inauguration. I ask her if it was glass or plexi glass(standard question) she replies telling me it was glass.

I take it to the table for packaging and she says to me "Exciting time isn't it?", i look up and reply "About what?" She says "Well our new President of course!" I said "Oh, yea things are gonna get exciting when this bill ruins our country".

So now she's mad. She's giving me one word replies on everything, being short with me. etc. I give her her total which was like $22 to ship it and have it all packed. Now to her this price is an outrage, and she demands to see my boss.

He comes from the front and she asks why the price is so high. He replies "because we elected Obama".

I laughed. She grabbed the package and left, while my boss yells out after her "don't worry the packaging is on us, kinkos is about a half mile south!"

CLIFFS: Woman wanted to ship something, tried to talk politics, i gave my opinion. She doesn't like me. She leaves.

She's not the only one.

jk

Along with being a pretty lame story, it was also horrible customer service. Your boss should be shit-canned if that is the quality of service he/she holds him/her-self to and allows out of their staff.
I don't believe in god, but I don't make smartass comments to every customer who mentions how great "he" is or "his" plan to me. And if I caught my staff making smartass political (or religious) comments to customers, those would be their last.
squeak and devil I almost 100% agree with you but i dont see how he was being a smart ***. He was expressing his opinion. Maybe he should have not done it to a customer but if his words are true then how is this different from any other day of him doing his job. I will reread his go post cause im a lil under right now.

It was more important to him to make a political point than to help the customer, and when they took their business elsewhere, it was funny to him. You don't need to bend over backwards for everyone, but if some smartass 17 year old had this attitude about customer service he would quickly be corrected as my employee.

Economic recession? Obama's going to ruin the economy? We don't need your business...go to Kinko's!

I agree with you, but i dont agree with all this^^ She suggested it first.

Well if you really have to say your piece, you could say "I'm concerned about our ability to dig out of debt with spending." That is totally different than saying that you are excited because the bill is going to "ruin our country". It's about not challenging the customer or making an issue out of a woman who is obviously excited to see that someone of her lineage could actually become President.

If some turd gave me shit about my package at UPS I would be pissed, but I dont think he did. My only relation to hers was about 'exciting times'. To me they are not exciting. For the record I hope Obama does better and I feel he will (even though i didnt vote for him). I just like your intelligent conversation.

he says "Oh, yea things are gonna get exciting when this bill ruins our country". I dont see anything inappropriate other than his boss should have not yelled out the door
You ever heard the saying "The customer is always right" ?

Well, it's not true.

But, in this case is applicable. As Devil said.....is voicing his political view really worth losing of a customer? If someone has an unhappy experience with a business, they don't keep that information to themselves. They will tell other people about that unpleasant experience. The average unhappy customer will tell 9 other people about their experience. So now instead of losing one customer, he's lost 10 potential customers. What happens when those 10 other people tell their acquaintances about the experience? Now how many potential customers has he lost? Over bickering with an old lady about her optimism for the new administration?

And yes, if his post is a direct quote, that's a smartass comment. It could have been worded much more politely. It was worded in a manor that was meant to be mildly offensive to a supporter of the administration (for whatever reason that may be). And the managers comment was just plain idiotic. Obama presently has nothing to do with the price of UPS's shipping. And the comment as she walked out the door was just immature and a horrible example to set for the staff.

It doesn't matter if his viewpoint is valid or not, or whether he agreed with hers. It was a stupid comment and a stupid argument to have with a customer. You don't argue politics or religion with a customer. Period. It is 100% unnecessary and unneeded.

I don't see how it was a dick thing for me to say if she initiated the conversation about politics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

And my boss was simply trying to help her ship her product when she was leaving, thats why he told her kinkos was down the road //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
