The coil alignment issues you really do not have with large subwoofer because the magnet is so strong everything stays centered and I don't even use shims. If you were reconing a weaker woofer like in a house stereo cabinet you would have to shim and make sure nothing moves.

How did this come out? Coil alignment can be an issue with drop-in kits. I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole myself.
Idk. It sounds like its rubbing a bit somewhere im not in a good mood this morning .. thats just pushing it down with my hand. Dont know what i did wrong

I hooked it up then dropped it in the Box before gluing the dust cap on... there is a slight Buzz at the very lowest of volume. Not noticeable once I turn it up past 1 or 2 I'm sure it's still there just can't hear it. Pulled it out. I don't hear it anymore when I push down with my hands. I guess I'll just glue the dust cap on and expect it not to last long...

False alarm. The noise was coming from the heat shrink tube on the tinsel leads rattling around. I had yet to shrink them lol..pounding azz as usual
Good stuff.

You got lucky for your first recone.

On my first one I left the shims in.....

Glad you got it workin, keep beatin!

Really? I'd honestly never heard that.

Haven't had any issues with the drop in recones I've done on my DC's. Done it 3 or 4 times now...

Gap is like a hotdog down a hallway with those DC woofers.

The risk is the surround to frame pulling the coil cockeyed in the gap. Spider is stiff enough that that will center with shims but surrounds are a bit softer and often don't fit 100% snug to the edges of the frame so if you're off a little in centering it can be an issue.

I do the cone to former last just in case the cone winds up wanting to pull a little bit and have found this method gives the most options to fix things as you go if something isn't perfect.

Again, I mostly use subs with very tight gaps so I have virtually no wiggle room to be a little off.

yeah thats why soundqubed had to do part by part with their recones because sh*t needed to be exact.
