More police brutality.....Cops shoots a dog this time for no reason

Should he have shot hte dog? Probably not. He should have jumped in his car and went to another house/called animal control IF he were that worried about it.

I dont think it's right, but I dont think the officer should be fined/sued/fired either. He wasnt sure what the dog was doing. He stepped out of his vehicle and saw an animal full spring at him. He did what came natural in his line of duty and protected his own ***.

And you cant handle a dog like you can a human, it's much more difficult.

Doesnt matter what we think, guy will lose his job and get hate mail for the rest of his life. You cant really say who is right or wrong, that video doesnt show everything you need to see. You cant tell if the dog was barking, you cant tell if the dog made an agitated movement before approaching him, nothing.

Clifs - I dont think it's justifiable, but I dont think he's completely wrong. Protecting his own ***.

Meh, its the same thing as a guy coming towards you with a knife.. He apparently thought the dog was coming after him to attack him. apparently you have to defend yourself. and he did.

I wouldn't say he shot it for "NO REASON" he didnt just pull his gun and shoot a dog laying on the ground. Could he have done something more reasonable? YES. But he had to act fast and probably didnt think about getting in his car. Could he be a "bad cop"? sure, we probably will never know though.

If it were me, I would of used pepper spray. Or I would have got inside the car if i were afraid of the dog.

But, he did think about shooting it before we even see the dog enter the scene, because he started to pull his gun when the dog was 20 feet away and not really running THAT fast towards him, more like an excited run. He definetely over-reacted. Too bad we cant hear audio to see how the dog was barking, that would make or break the case if the dog was barking like crazy mad or just running and not barking. That would help determine whether the dog was afraid and was going to attack the officer.

i didnt read everyones replies.. and this probaly has been mentioned...

but this cop showed up at the house to ask for directions.. its not like this person was under arrest... now thats fkd up

Well not sure what the Oklahoma local laws are but here in FL we have leash laws. A cop would have the right to do this here if a dog were charging so a bit of responsibility lies with the owner.

On the other hand it is up to the Police officer's responsibility to recognize if the dog is charging or just excited and coming to see him. I think you can judge based upon this species of dog that it was the later. If it were a pitbull then fuk yeah I'd be putting that dog down too.
