More gain setting questions....

The amps specs at 12 volts are as follows:

500w x 1 channel @ 4 ohms

700w RMS x 1 channel @ 2 ohms

Amps specs 1ith 14.4 volts:

1000w RMS x 1 channel @ 2 ohms

I'd say it'll be about 900w RMS.So using the DMM set to AC voltage on the amps speaker terminals and the car on and running and HU volume set to max volume before clipping start turning the gain up until the DMM reads about 40v AC on a 40-50Hz test tone tht was recorded at 0db's which can be found at ROE in the downloads section.

Thanks dude! Another question. Thats alot of power to throw at 500w rms subs. I know alot of people run them at 700w+. What kind of risks am i talking or will the gain setting prevent damage?

If you have 3 subs, and roughly 1000 RMS, that is only about 333 per sub. Set your gains correctly as to not send a clipped signal and you will be fine.

People throw 700 per sub at them, most with no problems.

333w per sub? I didnt realize it worked that way. So because im running two now at 600w each sub is really getting 300W?

so to max it out i would need something that put out 2100W at 2.67 Omhs?!?! Jesus.

sounds about right. If you have the time, after you install the amp, try hooking 2 subs to it and see if it has the output you want. Then try with 3 and see what sounds best to you.

There are wuite a few setups that don't use much power and get very loud. It is all install dependant. Ultimately, if it is loud to you and is what you want, who cares if you only ran 50 rms to 'em. As long as your happy, don't get too caught up in the numbers game.

I see, well i would hate to throw away the money to build a box for three and then it not be a big improvement ya know? Wood is really expensive here.
