Mini Computer Speakers

After several weeks of laziness, I finally picked this project back up. I testfit, wired one side up (other enclosure is being recleared), fixed my add-on 3.5mm plug, and tried to match the polarity/phase. Just one sounds pretty good. I tested it on my tv which has really low level audio output, so hopefully my computer will have a stronger output.

I think I'm going to use some deadener inside, then felt, then stuff loosely with poly-fil. I lost the rubber feet that I had so I replaced them with some from wallyworld.

It leaves a little something to be desired... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

A sub will definately be integrated by the year's end.

But they do magically make a messy spot seem cleaner:

Did someone from this forum do this? it is innsanes avatar

I really want to do this.. Where can u get speakers like this? Lots of local stores sell the toys..
They're his. I think there's a thread for them here. They actually inspired this project.

The speakers are from PartsExpress.

And where have you seen Munny's in stores before? They cost 20 bucks apiece and as far as I know, are only available from KidRobot.

Edit: Speakers are here and here

Munny figures can be found on ebay and here in Toronto we have a bunch of shops that specialize in Kidrobot and other Asian toys..

Thanks for your help! I never woulda thought those were 2" speakers... they looked so good in that picture i was starting to assume they were a new line by someone with kidrobot :p and ended up finding a line of kidrobot speakers :p crazy shit..

I am going to try and make my own pair.. Im going to try and find the thread again..

Edit: looking closer his speakers are slightly different then the ones u posted.. I think it looks so good because of the speaker he used.. its clean and the color looks good..

I need his speakers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Edit #2: I'd like to make a set of munny speakers and house the amp with volume controls etc in the munny box :p so it's on display also..

:jealous:

The price of the Munnies was what shied me away from using them. I wish we had local stores that carry stuff like that around here.

PE sells three or four different version of those 2". Dunno why exactly...

The amp will probably wind up being the expensive/interesting part. I think he used his sound card for the output, but you can go with a t-amp, the jbl12, or various chip amp kits.

Finally done. The left box had to be reshot since when cutting down the drip in the clearcoat, it ran into the primer. The paint is a little off as it was a different paint that was tinted to match. The left wound up being slightly darker, but it's hard to tell and I like them a lot anyway. They sound really nice too for being such small drivers and the having done absolutely no math/research before building the enclosures.

Here's how they sit now with my new (essentially) free 17" lcd monitor. A friend had it laying around broken so I took it and replaced the burnt out cathodes. Now I'm just waiting on a dualhead graphics card and power brick to run it.

You should build a small TL with a mini plate amp for lows, would be a sweet combo //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah I'm looking at the Tangband 5 1/5 neo sub or maybe an eu-700. I'd like to find a small plate amp first, but I might jump on the PE woofer since they're on sale right now.

im planning to put one of those together but using the t-amp from PE. not sure if i should get 2 or 3" speakers though.

do those play low enough for a 6.5" sub to pick up the rest of the freqs?

also what size are those boxes? any bit of a review yet?

I've read reviews from people using 3" drivers with the t-amps with good results. I actually just ordered a set of the 3" neo fullrange buyout drivers from PE for a second set. (debadged aura ns3's) I'd go with the 3" if you have the space.

As far as this set goes, they sound good a lower volumes, and with the bass on the amp all the way up, it provides good midbass without distortion. I'm sure a small sub would pick up the lower frequencies and blend well. Once the volume is turned up past 1/3 or 1/2 way, distortion is quite evident, and the bass needs to be turned down about halfway. They can get quite loud with the bass down and sound pretty good for their size. For normal listening volumes the combo is great, and certainly satisfies my needs. Once I can start playing around with the new drivers I can determine whether it's the drivers or the amp that's causing the distortion.
