Melted In-line fuse?

Ok I have a 400rms amp powered by 8 guage wiring. Well the amp shut off yesterday so I did some troubleshooting. Found out that the In-line fuse was melted? Not the actual fuse.. the entire holder. How the HELL does this happen? I can only unscrew one side. The other side is melted to shit. When I unscrewed it, the fuse fell out. The metal part and not the plastic outer part of the actual fuse. So it looked burnt up or melted. So what happened?

something grounded out

check all wire ends and look for cuts/frays
not entirely true, if something grounded out the fuse would be blown but it may have no melted the case. where is it at under your hood? my friend had one to close to a belt or some type of equipment that produced alot of heat under a hood causing it to melt it over time.

Well wouldnt it have been warm? I checked it like 4 minutes after it shut off. And i dont think it would melt the entire plastic. Ill still check the wire though.

Also how bad would it be to run it without that fuse?

Its on top of my shock. Near the alt. but i dont think it was close enough...

i had an 80a inline round fuse running in 8g power wire back to an MTX2300X lol... I have it in my drawer still, its completely melted and bubbled. Fire hazard like whoa! Fuse held up though.

that wires probably taking a load?

i was running a 4 guage to my entire system, cause i dindt want to rewire a 0/1 guage and i melted 2 of them fuses

so i changed to a circuit breaker, and separated component and sub amp from batt

well you risk blowing up your battery, or severely hurting your electrical. you also will have a fire hazard no matter how you look at it then.
