Melted Fuse Holder

you have to watch wire these days also...get pure copper...not copper plated aluminum...and a lot of companies skimp on size...ive seem 4g so small it barely fit a 10g terminal
So true..Im running Audio Technix 0ga in the truck and I believe Sky High 2 in honda(not sure they sold 2 ga but a short period)

Yea, was just a cheap-o boss amp installation kit. Got it all for free from a friend, so can't complain. Just don't want the car to be set ablaze by an electrical fire if i screw up.

If I upgrade to 4 ga should I opt for the 300?
You want to fuse at the wire's ampacity so the fuse blows before the wire burns up. For 4 AWG OFC you'll want up to 150A, for 4 AWG CCA you'll up to 100A. If you're using the AGU (barrel type) fuses they only go up to 100A afaik. You can use a lower number, it might blow before the wire risks getting too hot, but if you use a higher number it's like not using a fuse at all.

There's nothing wrong with using aluminum over copper, unless it's being mislabeled. Aluminum has about 66% the conductivity of copper, so as long as you use it in appropriate situations it's fine. But yeah, I definitely agree there are a lot of cheap-o companies that skimp on size. There's a reason it's cheap. A lot of cheap companies have wire with diameters less than the AWG (American wire gauge) standard. Some are at it, Knu's stuff is oversized.

Very true..150 would be best on 4ga for this application...safer..Good wire/true copper Ive used a 250 on 4ga with very little heat and worked well for me for over three years till upgraded to 0 for the amps I was running at the time

Nice..Sky High and Audio Technix is pretty good wire by the ft, as well

No doubt, they're just not on this picture. AT broke up into CT Sounds and Execution (CT being dealer only and Execution being direct to consumer), but they're both still really good wire.

Welding cable is probably the best bang for your buck, but it's less flexible and it's probably overkill for the OP, but if anyone's curious we talked a bit about it a couple months back: http://www.caraudio.com/forums/general-discussion/617294-welding-wire-users-tell-me-your-secrets.html.

Yes sir..I still have a bit of AT wire lying around..Been very good for my truck thus far..no issues.Great info

If it was fine for a year it wasn't the wire size. I'm telling ya it got loose and heated up and melted it.
What this guy said. I've been there done that. Loose connection =heat but check that the rubber didn't melt all over the fuse terminals and Interfere with the connection
