Matching amps with battery fuse...

wow my mistake, so if you are using a 4ga wire and your amp recommends a 200a external fuse, you still use 150a? or do you need to up your 4ga wire?

You still want to use an in-line fuse holder right before the amp, IMO. I had to do that for my 4080dsm. I always get a lower fuse and kinda guess when it's clipping (don't have tools to really test it, but you can basically tell when it's clipping, and the lower fuse rating can be a decent estimate as to when you are clipping the amp, I guess)

yes if your amp is goin to outdraw the amout of power your wire can handle its time to upgrade

I told this guy to order the fuse holder but I guess it didn't come with a fuse.

There is no hurt in fusing lower, other than popping more fuses, right?

then ive been doing it wrong for a while if thats true. when my amp recommends a 150 external fuse because it doesnt have any on the amp ive been under the impression i use a 150 amp fuse regardless of wire?that just seems wierd.

that just seems weird. when you say you fuse for your wire, does that mean that 300 amp fuse will still protect my 150 fused amp? i wanna protect my amp, not my wire.

This discussion is just going around in circles. Choose your main power wire wire beyond what your amplifiers can draw. Size the fuses to match the wire, unless your amp does not have internal fuses. Then you use an inline fuse holder close to the amp and put in an appropriate fuse for the amp. The fuse at the battery is sized for the wire. If you guys listened to what NASTY has been saying repeatedly this thread would be done.

So for clarification on amps w no fuse you fuse 2x by the battery and close to the amp and on 4 ga wire 140a by the batt and anl for the fuse by the amp

im not the blind truth type. what impala said seemed weird so i wanted to make sure i dont raise my fuses and blow stuff up. when i got my saz 1500 i was toldby my dealer to get 0 gauge wire and fuse it at 150 or up at my front battery and then i have a 150 amp fuse before my second battery and a 150 amp fuse after second battery close to my amp, its only a foot run. my amp doesnt have a fuse on it so i have to use inline. its confusing when so many people tell you different things.

some companies make 2ga but. with the availibilty and new overized cca its almost extinct...1/0. give u headroom ..only reasonable jump from 4ga ..or add another run of 4ga
