martian's 2001 buick build log

I feel ya man, I just got my interior back in after being out for over a month, it looked so nice to see the back of my truck clean for once! I also got the bed back in today after not having it on or driving it for a week, that was very nice to have put back on! Nice build! And work on those blow torch skills:), and if you have time maybe some bow staff skills haha

ha. Don't worry, the rest of the ring terminals I did yesterday turned out much better.

hopefully some more pics tonite if all goes well!! Glassing should begin sometime this week and in theory a lot of work should get done over the weekend.

man, i've been workin my six off lately, and the worst part is I feel like i'm getting nothing done!! I finally got some power wires ran, they're not hooked up to anything but they're there. Waiting on fuse holders and fuses to get here, and I am finally ALMOST done with soundproofing the floor pan, at this point I just need to cover the part where the wires come out and i'm good. I want to do some audio stuff!!

friggin a, the wires I need are never on the top //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Anyways, mainly spent the night figuring out what I needed wires for and where I wanted them to go. Have a rough idea of how everything is gonna piece together now.

white wires are for remote turning on/off of amps and some other stuff that may or may not be in the trunk //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif , brown cables are for speakers (12 gauge OFC, two run to each door because the front stage will be actively crossed over), red wire is 8 gauge OFC to make sure the HU gets good power, and black wires are for fancy lighting under the seats and such.

i know, i know, i'm just making a mess of everything and you probably want to see something interesting. Hopefully, those pics will be coming this weekend.

Looks like a mess lol, be patient bro, its a lot of work but it pays off. You're doing a very thorough job, I wish I had the money and patience to be as thorough. That's an interesting place to run the power wires. Here's some encouragement. Once you get deadening and wires run, that sort of stuff, the actual installation goes very fast and is a lot more enjoyable than laying down deadener and drilling holes for things. I'm not looking forward to making my box, it's going to be a pain since it has to fit under my seat, and I have to build it to maximize space, which means it will be very tight.

lol, that's exactly what it is. This week i've tried to spend as much time truckin' and as little time cleaning as possible.

That's an interesting place to run the power wires.
yeah....this thing is cramped as all heck and to get wires out the stock location would've been a giant, giant pain. Possibly less of a pain than drilling holes in the car, tho, now that I think about it...

Not gonna lie, I very much look forward to this phase //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You gonna use glass at all or wood for everything?¿

Well in general I was busy tonite, mostly scrubbing the carpets....other than that worked on power wires. I'm finally running all my juice thru 0 gauge of some sort or other.

waterproof fuse near alt. It's possible for the wires to break and short both the alt and the battery so i'm fusing in both locations. 1x250 amp near alt and 2x 200 amp near battery.

this is how my power wires get into the engine bay - they come up from under the car. I eventually plan to anchor them to a bolt sticking out that apparently serves no purpose (about an inch out of the the picture, sadly) but I need to make a trip to the hardware store and find some stuff to make that happen.

IMG_1482.jpg

hopefully, this pathetic excuse for a powerplant (well, it's 105 amps, so it could be worse i guess) will get replaced with a 220 amp alt.

This weekend I start glassing, regardless of what's going on in the interior. I'm fairly certain I have all the wires run and laid out at this point, the only thing holding me back is cutting off the metal supports in front of the trunk as I would prefer to do that with the interior out.

IMG_1487.jpg

notice anything different? Supports gone!! w00t!! Now I can get most of the interior back in (for now anyways, who knows if it'll stay that way) as well as start working on the sub box and back deck.

IMG_1486.jpg

i left a little bit of stuff in the corners for strength, and because I think that the seat butts up against these potions for support.

IMG_1484.jpg

gonna have to flatten this out a bit with a hammer or angle grinder or something.

Hopefully, there will be some good progress this weekend. As far as I know I have nothing pressing to do other than this build.

worked on the back deck today, as promised.

IMG_1496.jpg

making MDF rings for tweets and woofers

chopping up the back deck. Of course, all the holes ended up being wrong because of two stupid bars that run across my trunk that I didn't factor in, sadly. But that's okay

IMG_1497.jpg

3 out of four rings got mounted today. Not too bad.

IMG_1499.jpg

fabric stretched and glued in prep for fiberglassing. If I wanted these to look good i'd probably do it different but I don't care much I guess...
IMG_1500.jpg

resin applied, curing in my garage until tomorrow

IMG_1501.jpg

i'm not really sure what's on the docket for tomorrow, we'll see what I feel like doing.

kind of a slow day today, but the back deck is all laid out an just needs a few more coats of glass then it's done.

IMG_1504.jpg

you wouldn't believe what a pain it was to get stuff to fit in there, there's bars that run across the trunk and a whole bunch of other nonsense in the way. In the end, I got rid of one of the three brackets that makes securing a carseat easy. Boo friggin hoo.

hopefully putting the interior back in tomorrow or tuesday but other than that it'll probably be a slow week. I need to focus on some other stuff, sadly.
