The Wistles Go WOOOOOO!
im in the market for a new sub, and although im goin for SPL, id really like for the sub to be able to get pretty low. i mean id like to hit a 27-29 hz note hard enough to feel it like i should. So, on that note, i was curious as to how the SX did on the low end. ive heard a few people say it kinda struggled even in a larger, somewhat low tuned box (usually liek 4 ft, 33 hz.)

if anyones heard one that sounded awesome on the low end please post. otherwise i might have to keep looking for other subs. thanks

SX is a nice sub, but low end wasnt fully ther a 12 in 2.5 cu ft tuned to 35 so it was tuned a little high for most lo end, depends on what u think low end is, sx was pretty nice until i heard my XXX 15 on low end and dang it does it nice, but the SX got a little struggling in the low end but not that many songs go tha low antway

kent did a review on RL-p vs. XXX. and it was noted that the RL-p played considerably lower than did the XXX //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i have no complaints about my RL-p's playing low....http://www.realmofexcursion.com/videos/Various/rlphair.wmv

the hair trick, and most of the vid is all 20Hz tones //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The SX 'only' has an xmax of 20mm. Id suggest a sub with more displacement potential (XXX, Rl-p, Brahma, etc) if you are wanting severe bottom end. High 20's is pretty low bass, many poeple would be surprised how rarely their systems play much material that low.

yeah.. i researched it trust me. i got some program that analyzes frequencies in songs and i only have one or two that get that low, but my main concern is the low 30s range. a LOT of low bass rap songs get that low and i LOVE those frequencies. i want to make sure whatever sub i get will play those notes with some authority.

thanks for the suggestions guys. i might stray away from the sx.. and look more towards subs liek the rl-p.

however, the XXX wants too much power (i only have maybe 1200 wrms) and the brahmas are pretty expensive. i was trying to stay under 400 (and not a huge fan of used). but im liking the way the RL-p 15 is looking.

how is the SPL on the rl-p?

If you want better low end, you *usually* want to go sealed. Subwoofers in vented enclosures are kind of limited on how low they can play with authority by the enclosures tuning frequency and SSF.

amd so i present to you ladies and gents..my biggest dilemma.

im after spl but love low extension.. so i guess ported low is my answer?

what i want is:

a sub (or subs i guess) that will go super low and get CRAZY loud while not requiring over 1200 rms to achieve and not costing over 400 total or taking up more than.. 7? cubes before port. oh yeah and it has to sound kinda ok.. but i dont need audiophile SQ.

and i dont think theres any way that this ^^^ is gonna happen. ive been looking at subs for 6 months and dont think i can find anything that matches. so suggest all you can please.. cause im out of ideas.

ok i say stick with the sx.......but make sure u put it in a 6cube box and tune it to 25hz...u will have the extionsion of a seald but the output of a ported box.....and the 1200watts u have will be good for that box becuz the rule is ...the bigger the box less power u need to achieve high output.

one more time. i say rl-p. they only require 500wrms to do thier job.(i'm feeding mine 800w) my 2 only take 6ft before port. it would love 1200w. mine gets incredibly low and with the 2 in a 5ft box @ 36Hz i hit 151.1db......RL-p matches everything you asked for........//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

yeah looking at the specs of the Rl-p everything looks like its just what i want.. the only problem i saw initially with the rl-p was output. everybody says it wangs.. and 151.1 is a great number (even for 2 of em), but i just wish one driver could give me bass reaching up into almost the 150s...

i may be wrong, but it just seemed to me as if this sub just isnt quite as loud as i was hoping for. but ive never seen nor heard one so i guess ill take it from people who have.

the rl-p may be just what i need....

i heart my xxx

i got mine tuned to somewhere just above 30Hz and it still hits those VERY well........

i think u port and tune to like 24-29Hz ish u should reallly really feel that low end with xxx, brahma, mofo, or any other high excursion driver...
