Loud Type R in DBDRAG Setup???

Even for a daily driver. One of my customer came in TODAY and we swapped out 2 Type R 12's for 2 12w3v3's and they rocked the Type R's off of 1000 watts in a sealed box in an escalade.
Believe me...I've tried everything for the Type R's...but they just don't perform. I have a pile of Type R's sitting in the corner at our shop because none of our guys like them and neither does our customers. Yet I keep seeing great posts about them. I just don't get it. It can't be me...can it?

tuan
send a few off that pile this way. I can get rid of them. Also, get rid of that sealed box, they MUST go ported, but im sure you have heard them ported as well.

note:

not ALL of phat hertz runs type r's..maybe 3-4 people on the team run them...and we have 10+ people on the team...

i am one of the anit-type r people //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif haha. they would blow up in my application easily. i don't trust em.

Well they won a World Finalist Title so....i dont see how you can say that....the IL team phat hertz ran pretty much all type R last season, and they almost got team of the year....they have dominated this year so far around here...They are the most dominate team this year so far...and they were last year, so I dont see wher eyou get off saying that BOLLLLLLLD statement.
like typerbass said, only a few of them ran them, and you should ask them what frequencies they played.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

unless you're playing around 40hz, or lower... they ****...

here's how I can get off saying that...

I know their setups, and their loudest frequencies...

and since you brought it up, I'm a 2 time world champion, and 3 time member of Team of the year, and one of my teams is in the MECA hall of fame.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

type r's are ghey if not playing a low frequency.... and that's a certified fact.. and that's the point of this thread... they wouldn't cut it in drag..

find somewhere where I said they sucked regardless....

Thats your first problem right there.

Was that 1000 watts for the pair? If so, they can take quite a bit more than that.

It seems as though everyone missed my previous post.

they would blow up in my application easily. i don't trust em.
To be fair, you don't know that for certain. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The 15's will take your power all day long, despite what you may think.

I think you are just trying to justify spending 4x more on subs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

just out of curiousity, why is your s/n TypeRBass, yet you dislike the type r's?

He ran type-r's a few years back.

Then he started talking to a few teammates of mine, and now he won't get off the DD boner. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

type R's are ghey unless you're playing under 40hz....
and playing under 40hz, in any drag format, except for bass race... isn't great for winning championships //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

under 50hz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

guy on termpro was running Rs just as a temp. setup and said he played around with them a little and was in the high 140s (148.x maybe?) in the low 40hz range.

but im with everybody else in thinking that the R is just not well-suited for db drag.

but tuan, why is nobody happy? ive had them and they worked as great low tuned streat beaters. i had them on ~700 rms each and they were pretty loud at that, and seemed as if they could have taken much more. they are super peaky when tuned past the mid 30hz range in most applications, though, so they are def. subs that seem to be more suited for lower freq. reproduction i guess (i mean in comparison with other subs anyways). i enjoyed their punchiness and lower freq. smothness if nothing else, but i prolly wont buy them again.

it is what it is...

have you tried them in a lot of different applications (incl box size, tuning, box type, power, etc)? im assuming so but interested if not.

150 on the dash with one 12 R in the trunk of my monte... street A? maybe... 1 bat car on 200 amp alt. Was playing 48hz.

They are very very very strong low note woofers... and half decent higher note woofs... the MT/DD 95's walk em at 50-55hz+

Being that a CRX, or mostly any loud drag wall is probably playing well past 60hz... the R is pretty useless.

As far as MECA reality/driveby is concerned... or any car that really likes a lowish note... the R's work awesome and save alot of $. I can blow 5-6 12's before getting to the cost of one DD 9512... and the R's are more durable than that.

what else do you want for a hundred bucks and change? .. type r's are one of the best, if not THE BEST, bang for your buck in that category of woofers .. PERIOD ..
