Looking to make my 1990 Accord THUMP...and sound sweet...

What sort of power supply and amps am I going to want/need for: four 6.5" mids, a 12" woofer, and 2 tweaters?

I'm also still looking for suggestions on speaker makes/models, and am still thinking about how much I'm willing to shell out for this whole deal (comps are more spendy than coax I see).

I'm reading up on those sites keep_hope_alive. Thanks again!

Would I be just "paying for the name" with JBL or RF? I'm very new to this world, and I thank yall for bearing with me. I'd like to get a brand that's fairly common...so I can save $$$ by buying it from Amazon...and that's not the case with Hybrid Audio Technologies...

What about these? Any ideas how they would compare?

JBL - P660C - 6-1/2" 2-Way Component Speaker System

Alpine Electronics of America, Inc.

Rockford Fosgate® - P1652-S

And there are lots of others I guess...Pioneer, Reality, etc... I guess now my question is which is the biggest (best sounding :p) bang for my buck? I can get any of these for about $100 off the msrp tag from Amazon, and that's stretching my budget.

Also, I'd like to mention that I'm starting from the beginning...so should I start with amps/stereo then work into speakers? (I'd still like to know how much amp power I'm going to need to run this system).

I'd be interested in used as well. I've been keeping my eyes on cl...

Alpine Type-R I like more than the others listed based on side-by-side listening. I audition speakers as often as possible at shops. When I travel, I try to stop in a shop to chat and audition.

Massive Audio CK series is also decent, and not as common.

Visit the Hybrid Audio site and read the owners manual for the Imagine series. Great information on general sound system installations.

I like Alpine products in general, their mid and above lines, not entry level. They will work off the head unit, but will sound better with an amp. You gotta start somewhere, and the Type-R is a good starting place.

I also have a hOnda Accord

This is how I have my Sub

iT SOUNDS VERY GOOD.

I am getting ready to go with 2 subs and a bigger amp (mostly just because I have the equipment laying around already) but the current setup sound very good.

as far as sealing the sub with the opening - it will always outperform a ported enclosure in the trunk facing back... when accuracy is your goal. i know this from experience building and testing. my testing is both subjective (ears) and objective (RTA). the reason is phase interference is minimized with a baffle. if you want to know what to do, this is it. you are welcome to experiment. few go to great lengths for accuracy. most are only interested in loud noise. the later is very easy to achieve.
examples of some testing in my own Accord:

this is my current setup and hands down the best one

You got the best sound with the subs directed into the trunk??? I would have thought that the first pic would be most desirable (and what I was planning on doing). Why do you like them pointed away from you?

What do you think of Type-X speakers as opposed to Type-R?

Why do some speakers have cones and others don't?

subs don't care which way they face, you just reverse polarity. the pressure wave they create is the same. they are like this for space conservation. they sound better because they are in an optimal environment. the Alpine subs aren't suitable for IB/TB, and i wanted to eliminate the enclosure. overall, the Type-R isn't a highly accurate sub

Type-X is a better sub with higher power handling.

I'm meeting a guy tomorrow to pick this up for $110...hoping it's good cuz I'm kinda commited.

DEH-7300BT - CD Receiver with Built-In Bluetooth® and USB Direct Control for iPod®/iPhone® | Pioneer Electronics USA

Thoughts? I'm planning on putting this and a set of components up front, then finish off my system sometime in the future with the components in back and a sub.

I was wondering about the power output of 6.5 speakers. I've seen them go from 75-110 Watts RMS...what should I be looking for in the $2-400 MSRP range?

you do not need components in the rear that would be a waste of $$.
I wouldn't pay $110 for that unit if it is used as that radio sells for $150 online brand new.
It's NIB. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Some good advice here. If OP is still looking for components, the Lanzar Opti 6.5" components are supposedly very good for the money (can be had on Amazon I think). The Crescendo components are also pretty nice and they have pretty good customer support.

Really if you put some work into deadening and a good tweeter location you don't need to throw a ton of money on fronts to sound good. Your money is far better invested in a good install and just reliable gear than super expensive gear then cheap out or half *** the install.

Also think about another $30 for wire harnesses and another $15 if you need dash kit.

I would take a look here for a CD deck before you pick that one up cause a lot of them come with free shipping plus free install accessories and you may find something better for a little bit more.

Car Audio Stereo - Car Subwoofers - Car Amplifiers and Speakers

I've ordered all my subs and amps from here and also my Numark Mixdeck (midi controller) and have had no problems from them whatsoever.
