You think since that I work for the goverment as a computer security specialist, that id be some big computer guru as far as hardware and gaming is concerned as well. Well you're be right, I should be...but being that im way to busy to sit and analyze what I should buy thats the best of the best of the best, I cant really allocate extreme amounts of time to it like I used to when I was a real geek.

So anyways, im looking for other fellow geeks for help. I just want to spend around $500 for a gaming setup that will play games like COD4, Crysis, etc ... anything that takes stupid amouts of power to play right and be successful at it.

I ran across this for the price, seems somewhat scalable later if I need to add more ram at least, or throw in another video card for dual monitor gaming. Tell me what ya think ..

im open to other suggestions, but want to keep it below $600 for now. Im not too worried about storage on this since I have a ton of IDE hard drives full of shit I still need. So keep that in mind.

Oh I know its not that hard, just dont have the time to research it. I spent the last 3 hours at work here on pricewatch, newegg and tigerdirect. My head hurts.

I do have some basic things as benchmark requirements. Core 2 duo for gaming, at least 512 for video (I perfer ATI but meh...whatever makes me shoot the people on my screen better FTW) , 4 ram slots so I can do 8gb later on....and.....thats about it. I really could give a shit less about any other features.

I didnt see it specify a graphics card...That is the make or break for Crysis and even COD4.

this card would be pleanty to play crysis. i love ati i know its sold out now but i cant believe i found that at bestbuy that cheap beats newegg etc.

the hd3870 is amazing.

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=547&card2=548

for half the cost it outdoes the 8800gts besides the texture fill rate.

and yes i understand they are sold out now. but they usually get them in every week around sunday.

Build it your self!
that way you are sure you are getting what you want/need.

I really dont have time to sit down and build a pc, nor the inclination to either. I remember when I though of it as "fun" to build a new system. That was like years ago. Try working in the IT field 15 years and get back to me on how you feel too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Battlefield 2142 is a tight *** game, but here's something u should know.

Just like Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142 is not designed to take full advantage of multi-core CPUs as confirmed by This ArticleThis doesn't mean that the CPU is not important to BF2142, nor that you may not be able to get a performance boost if you upgrade to a more recent dual or multi-core CPU, as these often have more efficient memory architectures. It's simply worth noting that the game doesn't appear to use more than one core at any time, and thus is not optimized (multi-threaded) for dual cores.

EDIT: u may not need to buy as much as u think
