Looking to buy a indash

iva-d310 loads an mp3 dvd in about 5 seconds. navigating is pretty quick.
im gonna get me one eventually. for now i have an iva-d300... pretty much the same thing but the 310 has a few subtle upgrades...
That doesnt have built in navigation. Thats like the middle version, what about the IVA-D901? The more expensive one doesnt even look good. But this indash when the dash is closed u cant even really control it like a regular cd player.

probably the best 2000 you can pay. iv used no better unit
What other units have you used? i was planning on spending a day (not really) travelling around to different stores trying to play with a lot of them. I had an AVIC-N2 for a week but it was damaged by UPS, so I got it claimed and got money for it. It has been really the only unit that I have somewhat played with that had navigation. I want to find Pioneers' AVH-P7600DVD to play with, but no store I know has one, or even sells it. It also is not upgradeable with a GPS slave unit, as of yet, so I don't know if that would be a viable option.

another option i have considered was to use a "slave" carputer to run GPS software, but that is a lot of work...and the pioneer has the option to use XM's navtraffic info, which is cool cause i am driving in chicago-area all the time and always seem to find traffic, but i can't get that in a carputer i don't think.

I wish i knew somewhere i could play with those eclipse units too, they look hot, but they are expensive...

Now I am more interested in the Alpine IVA-D310? When the dash is closed, why does alpine make kind of crappy technology for lcd display? It looks like block letters, not like clean writing. Also where are the track selecting buttons when closed?

Also, Alpine IVA-D310 doesnt come with built in navi right? If I got navi, then the monitor is not touch screen navi I heard?

its not built in. i dont have nav on mine because it wasnt touch, and i have been waiting for touch... and it turns out they just released it (i just checked alpine-usa.com) so YES //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif its touch now! wooohooo
The navi for the deck is like another 1,000 or more. So thats more than 2k just for a indash and navi while the pionner is like 1100 with navi, but its slow and it sucks.

um....why would you ever have the thing closed?
hsugh.gif
You dont want people to know you have a indash sometimes. Also why would I want it open 24/7. So there is no track buttons when its closed. What is wrong with alpine? People like to use it as a regular cd player when its closed. Also some people said you cant see the time display when its closed.

um, whatever you say partner.
i never close mine. the whole purpose of having the screen is so i have a big easily-navigable GUI to play my music from.
Even so if you keep it open, dont u think its kind of annoying to keep touching the screen to go to the next track? Why are there always flaws/cons in any indash?
