Looking for new 12" sub: want SQL. Help!

So I got my first sub about a year ago (Alpine Type-R 12"). However, even though it pounds pretty hard for one sub, I'm looking to get something with a higher level of clarity with the sub hitting at the right time. Obviously I want something that still hits, but it doesn't have to be over the top.

Any recommendations for something with more quality than power?

Sorry, forgot that bit of info.

Probably around $300. Small budget, I know. I'm 17 and taking college preparatory classes, so I have little available time, so no job. Just using money I've saved up.

Alright, would ported or sealed be a better bet?
Depends on which sub you end up getting. Most likely you'll go ported, but you need a properly built enclosure. If the cost/time/trouble of getting an enclosure built, nothing wrong going sealed
