Looking for 10" sub suggestion, requirements inside.

Hello,

My sealed enclosure has .75 cu.ft of air space 6.0" mounting depth. My amp puts out 200 RMS.

Assuming the average subwoofer displaces around 0.04 cu, that leaves me with 0.71 cu.ft of airspace.

Can someone recommend a sub which offers high quality sound (not interested in volume) that can operate within those restrictions?

So far the best one I can find is JL Audio 10WX which requires sealed box volume 0.625 cu.ft and uses 200 RMS.

Thank you.

Edit: I'll take a 12" but I doubt there is one that operates in 0.71 cu.ft.

Would the 300 RMS subs (10D4 and ID10) be underpowered by my 200 RMS amp? I rarely crank the volume above medium, I'm worried it'll be driven at more like 150 RMS.

I can get the sealed box to 0.90 cu.ft max. If needed I'll polyfill.

From the youtube videos both these subs seem insane enough to rattle the trunk - thats not the type of sound I want to get. Is it just a matter of running it at a lower volume?

Either sub would be fine but i do think the dcon would be able to handle more power/get louder. From experience the ID sounds really good in small sealed enclosures, underpowering a sub is never bad.

The only time "underpowering" hurts a sub is when you use an amp that can't put out enough clean watts to it, it's called clipping and is very easy to do. Just set your gain high, turn up some bass boost and put the sub level control on +10!

i wouldnt worry about it, you won't notice much. is your amp 2 ohm stable? if so get the dual 4 dcon
Thank you for helping me out with this.

Here are the specs for the amp (Alpine PDX F4):

RMS Continuous Power (at 14.4 V)

• Per channel into 4 ohms 100 W x 4

• Per channel into 2 ohms 100 W x 4

• Bridged into 4 ohms 200 W x 2

I'll be running my amp bridged, and it doesn't list support for bridged 2 ohm.

If I'm able to get my enclosure to the optimum size recommended by sub, should I stil polyfill if I'm looking for sound quality over volume?

I did some more research and I can't run the amp bridged @ 2 ohms. Is a single voice coil a large degradation in sound quality over the dual?

Everything I'm reading says underpowered subs sound like *** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I politely disagree. It depends on the subwoofer, firstly. Is its rated RMS thermal or mechanical? Moving mass also can be a variable, and so on. It's situational, and a "recommended RMS" is generally applied to help the user steer clear from danger or abusing the driver.

So for my own piece of mind, running a 300 RMS suggested SSA Dcon 10" single voice coil at 200 RMS will still offer superior sound quality to a 200 RMS rated 10" JL Audio 10WX?

Polk mm 10" wants .66 cubic foot and I loved the sq of mine

also look at Dayton budget quality drivers. Loving my 15"

Also peerless xls and xxls 10s are rated like 150 or 175 watts rms and are amazing sound quality drivers

lastly underpowering a sub will not sound bad untill u keep cranking the gain trying to get louder an u clip the amp. Keep it clean and the sound will be great
