check this video out of wooten. he plays a 4 string. uses a slap and pop style which incorporates slapping with the thumb on the downstroke and then popping with the thumb index and middle finger on the upstroke. he also uses harmonics in the style of jaco and a 2 handed fretting technique. may not be your style of music but still amazing to watch. http://youtube.com/watch?v=4dWb-aCWR8U

I need to wait for a check to clear before i buy anything but its supposed to go through either today or monday.

So far the one i got linked to is a nice possibility, and what I've come to find is that they all pretty much look the same lol.

If i were you, i'd look for a used Fender Standard J-bass. Our bassist uses one of them, and it sounds great with all types of music we play.

They can be had anywhere between like 250- 400.

Worth a look IMO.

Now, for an amp.

I have an EHQS 8 laying around, a couple at that. I have a ported box for two at 2 cubes with 37 htz tuning, and a 1 cube sealed box for one. I have an old amp laying around, and i have a board for my old bass amp. I could make an amp? Sound like a good idea?

don't forget Squire, basically the only difference between that and Fender is the manufacturing process. I picked up a vintage 70's modified jazz bass for $300 at a local shop, can be had a guitarcenter.com for $279. a little priced but its solid, sounds great, and looks friggin sweet imo.

bump up, need ideas on the amp.

What I was going to do is take the board(amplifier itself, not the case) put it in a panel for volume/tone control and convert the extremely low voltage from the guitar to a higher voltage my amp can use with the headphone output, so the old amps internal amp is not used (its only 5 watts anyway). Being my amp is a car amp, ill have to mount one of my PSUs inside the speaker enclosure. Im going to try and sketch up a design quick.

Any ideas on what kind of speaker to use? As i said i have subwoofers, but they're 8s. I also have KLH 15 not being used, but its not the greatest woofer. Do i have to buy an actual bass guitar speaker from PE?

Finally, what kind of enclosure should i make? Also what to tune to if at all? Should i just seal it?

u should really find a style u like. and will work with the music u will be playing. i have not played in about 2 years. just lost intrest. i still have a few basses and amps at my moms. just find the right bass. there is basses that do fit the kind of music u will be playing. (pick up wise ) good luck and get some effect pedals or a multi effect prosser. i have a line 6 and and a line 6 floor pedal alowes u this shift from diff effect with your feet that i might sell $500 with the floor pedal.

and then theres tapping.

tapping is just what it sounds like, tapping the strings with the fingers on both hands.

Alright guys ive been doing some watching on youtube and im really liking the way the one in the vid below sounds. Do you guys have an idea what the Dean will sound like? Similar I hope? Most likely it looks like Ill be ordering that one.
