Looking at picking up a bass guitar.....

So i used to play bass a while back with some friends, but I quit recently. Sold my bass as well. Recently i just found out I have a friend that can play the drums pretty well, so im wanting to start playing again. But ive got some questions.

First, I've got my eye on a couple local ones, but im open to whatever you guys can suggest. The first one is a 4 string Yamaha, I've always been a fan of their stuff, and i like the guitar too. Its 150.00 and seems to be in good shape, i picked it up and had a look quick, but thats it. The other is a brand that i can't seem to remember ATM, but its something like Frederline i think. Its 125.00, i like it too, its really small and light compared to the Yamaha, which is ****ing gigantic and long. It was in a little worse shape, but its cheaper. Both are 4 strings.

Are these decent prices? I have an amp, but its really small so i'll probably just hook it up to my HT when i practice.

Are these good guitars overall? As i said i played before, and in the school band for awhile, so im not a total noob, but im not a guru either. I know Yamaha makes pretty good stuff, so im not worried about that. Also what other brands should i look into? As far as a budget im wanting to spend no more than 150.00, new or used, it doesnt matter. Its just for me to play, not to rock out on a concert stage or anything. Also it has to be electric, and im a big guy so size or weight doesnt matter much. I only played a 4 string before, so no 5 strings.

hi i have been playing the bass for about 15 years and the guitar for about 10 years. i can tell you what kind of music u will be playing should be takin to effect. how the bass feels how many strings ect. u should pick it up see how it feels to u. i like jackson. try to spend more money trust me. its like car audio u dont wont to have to buy stuff over and over.

Fernandez is probably it.

Ill be at the local store next week so then i can probably get some pics of the Yamaha and the other.

I really like the Ibanez, and ill keep looking out for others.

Also, does anyone have any input on the HT idea? I know i can hook it up because ive done it before, but I've downgraded it alot since then. I have a sub, but its just a Kicker Comp 8".

dean ftw. i just got my edge 1 quilt top in tiger eye about a month ago. beatiful and plays great. it was only 220 shipped. look into the dean edge 10a. active electronics for right at 150. cant beat that.

I listen to soft metal mostly, Korn, Atreyu, Three Days Grace, Disturbed etc.

I notice most of Korn is slap style correct? Thats when you smack the string with your thumb? When i played all i did was walk the string with my index and middle finger, i didnt expiriment with other styles much.

I probably can't do a 5 string because unfortunately my fingers are a bit short.

I dont want to spend more than that budget because its just a hobby of sorts, i dont need a really expensive one. If I really get in it then ill invest some real money.
