little wiring help

If you want to drive to Webster, League City area, I'll take a look at it. You need to call me first though cause I'm on call this week(7135574278) or call me and I can walk you through some steps but you need to have a multimeter.

Grounding the battery shouldn't cause any problems but never underestimate Murphy's law. If you have voltage on everything and the deck powers up fine then jumper 12.5 volts from the + pos of the amp to the remote turnon located on the amp. It should power up but if it doesn't then there might be an issue with the amp. I was going to suspect a bad ground when you mention the 3 volts but just to make sure its not do a continuity test on your cables.

well there jackhole......

he never said he checked the fuse on the deck....

inline fuse and d-block, is nowhere near the h/u

he actually mentioned that he did not see y pulling the head unit would be of any help..

Sorry for trying to point out an obvious troubleshooting point

if the deck is turning on an operating fine, i highly doubt the fuse on it is blow :uh:

Might be a faulty fuse. Wont hurt to check. It takes what 5 minutes, maybe. My recommendation is to check your equipment in another car. Maybe your amp is grounding through its cover. Is it touching metal?

Ive had fuses before that cut in and out. Mainly the tube kind, AGU I think.
if he's getting any form of signal, i doubt the fuse is cutting in and out, and the last time i checked, they were spade type fuses on the back of hu's, i've heard of AGU's doing that before, never witnessed it myself though.

They are maxi on the back of the head units often. Ive seen inline small AGUs though, but that is irrelavent. If you dont know the problem though, what is wrong with checking everything regardless of the percentage that it is the problem.

Ok, all fuses have been checked, even the headunit. After much frustration last night, I was able to make some progress. I was able to get power to the amps but only by wiggling the RCA on one certain amp then the rest would power up. Makes absolutely no sense.

Once I was able to get things powered and wired to speakers, I had a nasty whine.

As for the age of the equipment, headunit is about 4-5 months old, wiring is all brand new, amps I cant give an actualy age but they have been well taken care of.

remotes are wired together, RCAs have worked very well for the time ive had them and grounds have not been changed.

All wiring is exacty the same as it was when everything was working perfectly....

Try it with just one remote wire to the amp you need to test. Im not sure if that will solve the problem or not. I had a similar problem, if I unhooked an amp, the other one would stay on. Try that.

When all fails, usually its best to start again from ground zero. That means disconnect everything and connect one item at a time and test, then hook the second item, test and so on.

The trick part of troubleshooting is to keep it simple, look for the obivious( look with your eyes open, sometimes you tend to get wrapped up so far into troubleshooting, taking voltage and so when it could be a simple switch setting on amp, wire connection, loose wire, headunit settings and anything.

but in your case no wiring or euipment ever changed, just doing big 3 wires and shorted the positive wire to ground. It seems you tried everything.

So maybe how about if you undo the big 3 and return system back to normal before big 3l. And see if system works, if it does, then big 3 is the problem. And then troubleshoot. troubleshoot one item at a time.
