Lf Amp for 2 2ohm type r's

Like the title says I need help find an amp for 2 2ohm type rs I have a 2000watt amp in there now that just in giving my subs the kinda thump I'm looking for. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The amp I have now is a 2000w kenwood

What kind if enclosure are the subs in? Unless you had a custom box built for your subs then I would say your money would be better spent on a proper box before buying a new amp.

Well amp isn't the best but also isn't the worst and should still be moving the subs at least a decent amount. Box is within alpine specs for size but probably undersized for decent output and definitely tuned to high. Did you install yourself or have it installed? Are you positive subs are wired correctly for a 2 ohm load? Have you checked the settings on the amp and headunit?

I had best buy do the install (didn't have time to do on my own being on call and such) and not sure about the wiring the only thino I can see is how it's wire into the amp. Otherwise I've been playing around with the head unit and can't get them where I know they could be

Looks to me like you're box limited more than power limited. Assuming the subs are properly wired for 2 ohms they should be seeing close to 500w rms each. Even if your electrical system could supply an amp twice as powerful you'd only see ~25% increase in volume.

The box, however, is tuned high, and on the small side.

In modeling that box -- if you trust the specs of the port (2.5 x 12 x 13) -- The tuning frequency is actually above 40hz. I'm getting 41-43. What that gives you is is a big peak (ripple) in output at about 50hz, but it comes at the cost of low frequency output. You're down 3dB at about 41 hz and down 6dB at 36 hz. ~35 is a critical range, IMO, if you like some low bass music. You want to be just starting to roll off at that point, not 6dB down.

On top of that the port is small for a ~20mm xmax 12".

There's quite a few discussions on box design for those subs. Looks like people are regularly doing 1.75-2.0 cf per sub and tuning them low-mid 30's with ~20 sq in of port area.

It's a lot more work than just buying more power, but ultimately, if you want the best from those subs you need a bigger/lower box.

thats only a 1000 watt kenwood. You dont look at max wattage. RMS wattage only.

Your box is junk. Get rid of it. Pay for a custom box rather than a new amp that wont get you any louder. A properly designed box by someone who knows wtf they are doing will get ridiculously loud on your current power. NEVER EVER PREBUILT BOXES

A ported box has both the subs and the port making sound. That box is tuned to 39 Hz, which means a fairly wide range of the bass is coming from the port. This, plus the music you're playing, is a big reason why the subs don't appear to be flexing. This isn't actually a bad thing until you have so much amplifier power available that you're in danger of cooking the voice coils.

I agree that a better built box is the smarter upgrade now. Atrend isn't the worst, but I promise you are losing bass due to the walls of the box flexing more than we want.
