my question is will the koda actually hit the lows like the re8's? i heard that its way better on midbass, but not as good with the low response

No. The Qtc gives you an idea of the system's (the sub in the box) relative efficiency, bandwidth and frequency response (best way I can think to explain it). So Qtc changes with box. Bigger box = lower Qtc. Smaller box = High Qtc

The higher the Qtc, the more "peaky" the response is, and the higher the Qtc the higher the frequencies that the peakyness occurs at (generally what gives people the idea that a sub is "punchy" is when the Qtc is such at the sub has a peak in the lower midbass or higher subbass region). Also, the higher the Qtc the less efficient the system is (the sub can handle more power mechanically), and the higher the Qtc has less low frequency extension.

So, the lower the Qtc, the more efficient the system, the response becomes smoother and it has better low frequency extension. The tradeoff with a low Qtc is overall volume level (the higher Qtc setup will get louder than the lower Qtc setup)

Ok, I know this question should have been asked prior to box building, BUT!, will this sub do a decent job of providing bass in my car in this box (12x10x8)?

My car is a '95 Nissan 240sx coupe. I don't listen to rap or hip hop so I don't need it to pound, I just want some more kick to stuff like Metallica and the like.

I will be putting the box in my trunk facing sideways, but I can always face it backwards if it sounds better.

What do you think, will this do the trick?

Bass is better than no bass.

Its a hatchback right ?

If so there will be plenty of bass to suit your needs

well I guess I'll let the secret out now..

3 days ago my Koda 8 arrived... in went under the dash, where I had an RE 8.. the box is .38 cuft sealed, and stuffed will fiberfill..

I love the RE 8 to death, but the Koda simply outperforms it.. it sounds better, will extend higher, and lower in this sealed alignment. even with less power ( 2 ohm v/s 4 ohm on a bridged rear of a Coustic 320qe), it's just as loud.
