Know nothing need advice

Right now Sonic Electronics has an awesome 5 channel for cheap. The NVX 5-channel is only $179.

The next decision is how much space are you willing to forego for the sub. Ported is my preferred but you can get a much smaller sealed box and still have some good "thump". A single twelve in ported configuration is going to take up 1.5-2.25sq ft of volume, pending sub selection. With your budget there are a bunch of options. Here is an example of what I may purchase on a budget system.

Converter - Audiocontrol LC6I $120

Amp - NVX 5 channel $179

Custom ported box - $125

Wiring kit - $80

Sub - Sundown SA-12 $220

Fronts - JBL GTO's $75

Rears - Same $75

Install fees - $500

Total'ish - $1,374

Some corners could be cut and certainly more could be spent. Install price varies greatly in areas.

I wouldn't suggest a big 12" sub....maybe a smallish 8" sub might suit him better as he stated he just wanted a little bit better sound. A single 8 takes up less space too.

Could also do a shallow 12 or 10. One that takes up a low amount of cu.ft space. Elantra's can be somewhat tight on space...

Hmm...something like a Dayton Audio sealed box sub....smallish and takes up little space.
I am a huge fan of the Daytons. Another low cost subs that just impressed me completely...the NVX. Just out two into one of my work trucks. Awesome.

Dayton HO's would be good... Small box friendly for sure and can hammer lows.

I also like for a budget and shallow the Pioneer Shallow subs. I have one here and while not a JL Tw3, it's a pretty darn good sub in a small enclosure.

Just my 2 cents...

Adding a quality sub and amp (650ish watts rms rated) run me around $600 not counting install cost (doing the install myself). Single 15 on 650 watts rms amp on oem deck and speakers. Thats LOC, RCA, FUSE, BOX, SUB, AMP etc... (custom box will be $100’ish more)

Just a fyi... bottom end of things to coplement oem and least impact on elec sys. Thanks to the forum members for advice...

yeah blanks mono amp with sealed dayton would be good even a 10 lot better than just reg speakers.. keep factory til u see how they sound that saves u more $ up front anyway..
