KHA does an SPL build - 1996 Astro Van

modified design. i want the sub on the bottom. so i'm mirroring the front.

did a mock up this evening. still have port work to do.

I need another 4x8 sheet of MDF. Two sheets in it so far, minimal scrap.

Thanks for the complements.

We still have a lot of work left. Besides gluing and bracing, i will be using resin and fiberglass at the seams and mounting location. then i expect to use bedliner for the exterior covering for both enhanced strength and protection. lots of work left.

tonight i think we'll insert t-nuts for woofer mounting, cut the hole for the 45Hz port and put t-nuts in there, and maybe glue the fronts and tops together. i think it will be better to glue the layers together before assembling them - so i can clamp them tighter.

Build looks good. Will you still be making the trip down to bloomington without the van?

sadly, no. my nieces are in a dance recital tomorrow and i have family in town. can't bail. i do work at the hospital in Bloomington though. So i'm there on a regular basis anymore. It's not that far, we make day trips.

i had wanted to be ready for that show. ah well, i'll hit the next one. family is more important.

Why wouldn't you flush mount the sub? That generally gains AND looks nice.
you may notice that the front will have a lot of seams. I will cover it all with another board, either 1/2 or 3/4" MDF. that will be routered at the port and sub and edges. that board will come later.

it's gotta look nice!

Yeah family always comes first. I ended up not making it out there either and I'm from Peoria. Had too many things to do yesterday. Are there any shows up in the quad cities area?

there is a QC show at Mobile Wiring planned for late May. we want the van there. that is our goal. it will be ready. i will let you know.

i'm driving to Bloomington today, oddly enough.

Peoria, eh. I do a lot of work there also. How do you like Friar Tuck's Beverage?

Yeah let me know about the show. Where do you do work in Peoria? I've only been to Friar Tucks one time for wine (for the gf) and it has a huge selection of wine and pretty much anything you want. I didn't look at the liquor prices to compare the prices, but it was more upscale than a binny's beverage depot.
