k guys im stuck on deciding

im more of a sealed guy...so ur saying the type r needs to be in a ported box in order to be good?...if i get a prefab ported box..will the type r sound good...what specs do i need for the ported box then?
no prefab will due the type R justice.

If you are interested in a box, PM me up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And yes, the R definitely needs ported, it just doesn't sound good sealed, nor does it get loud - compared to other woofs that work better in a sealed box. Ported, thats when it gets goin //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

who says ported cant sound great?

just depends on the box much more than sealed... 10% variation in a sealed box wont make much matter, 10% variation in a ported box can be the difference between wow and ew //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If he wants to do sealed them let him!!! As for the pg I know it really shines in the sealed. As for less output in sealed boxes, some people arent trying to blow their brains out, they just want some good low end extension, and sealed boxes do just that. So just let it be. Hes obviously not a bass head, so it doenst matter.

WHY YOU WANT A PORTED BOX:

"I don't want it TOO loud" "I'm just for sound quality!"... heard that 1000 times. The truth is that a ported box can be better for both sound quality AND spl. Why not take both?

A proper ported box will be considerably more effeciant than a sealed box. A sealed box, for example, will do 135db at full tilt. A ported box with the same woofer and amp may do 140db at full tilt (can be more or less, keeping it even for the sake of argument). That means you have 5db more potential in the ported box. For the sealed box to get to 135db you are pushing it hard, while the ported box will be loud and clean at the same level. Get where I'm going?

A ported box gives you HEADROOM! When you need more output, perhaps for a short burst of bass, the ported box is there for you, while the sealed box just distorts. Lets not even mention riding on the highway and trying to overcome road noise!

Ported box = less stress on your sub, on your amp, your electrical system, and your wallet!

Lets not go too far here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Sealed has its advantages too. And in most situations, better SQ is one of them. But yeah, a low tuned vented system can sound really good no doubt (with the proper sub).

It does vary woofer from woofer, very few woofs don't benefit from a ported box, though. A majority of "sealed box" subs just require a very specific ported box to work the best - the alpine type S is one of them. If you don't build the one specific box for em, they lose all SQ.

Most situations sealed will sound better because a proper ported box is beyond the person's abilities and/or checkbook //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But I will concede, some woofs just love a sealed box.

thanks guys...love the info...but i think i may go with the pg..mackenzie helped a lot..and it would match my x600.1 amp...

but thanks for all the suggestions
