JL TW5 build log

ported isnt recommended but after an hour or so talking to JL yesterday they are capable of being ported.everything in the tw5 is the same as a normal woofer.

my friend is actually planning on getting one to test ported in his stratus which should be louder than hell seeing as he has 3k + in deadening inside it.

ported sounds like it would need 2ft or so but would get very loud with low power
Yeah, Electrodynamic said his civic is deadened to the max, and the BM still managed to cause rattling. He said it is comparable to the Magv3 in sound, which is a very impressive feat for a slimline woofer.

But for $1100 I can build an entire system that will be more than a match for the TW5s. I would rather have 2 of the new Mags when they come out.

Not dogging the TW5 at all though. I think it is a great piece of equipment, and I'm really glad to see that people with single cab trucks, small convertibles, or even normal sized cars with a lot of cargo can have a system without sacrificing quality or quantity of sound

agreed. to me the BM seems like it will be more geared toward SPL the reason i went with the TW5s after i heard one is i was very impressed. and the main reason i wanted to go back toSQ while i had a little hearing left.

SI is not an SPL-based company. If it sounds anything like the old mag, the BM should be an SQ monster that can still get loud.

However, since I want straight SQ, I'll probably just go with a single MagV4. Hits lower than the BM and the old Mag. Should be one stellar woofer.

Or maybe I'll go with an Aura MR if I ever fall into some real money:D

for people wanting to know how these sound. after talking with jl they said they would be comparable to the 12w3v3. they're just in a much more compact assembly.
I certainly hope they sound better than that with all the hype going on. I have heard the W3s and was not all that impressed. Decent, middle of the road daily driving sub, but nothing spectacular.

Now if it was comparable to the W6, we might have a contender. Otherwise, I think the BM will stomp all over the TW5

i bought them after talking to JL and they were caparing them to the W6. and that this may turn into their "flag ship" woofer.
