i never said it had anything to do with getting loud, but when converted, they amount to the same thing
Also, have you ever heard of mounting a sub inverted? It would be very possible to put a GTI in .5 cubes although I doubt it would sound great. It would be in the same alignment as the w6 in .85 cubes. Since he isn't looking to save space, it's pointless to worry about.
reverse mounting is an option, but it doesn't change the fact that the sub can't possibly fit in a 5 cube box, which he is saying he did
I have some questions for you though, cotjones:
1) Define "arguably flatter response" and give the enclosures you're talking about.
2) Give me your reasons why you think the w6 will sound better.
3) Tell me what the original poster wants out of their sub setup.
1.) the reason i said arguably flatter is because it's very subjective, but imo it's easier to get a flat responce out of a w6
2.) personal opinion, i've heard a couple setups with the GTIs and i think a 13" w6 will be both louder and have better SQ
3.)ask him, but as i said, the W6 seems better whether he wants an SQ , or SPL and DEFINITELY SQL
Also, I'm sure 2mm xmax is a huge reason to pick one sub or another. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
it is a HUGE concern in output if you want to put it in a sealed enclosure, the extra excursion times the extra piston area= more displacement= higher output... its still a conscern in ported enlcosures geared for music listening because the sub will not always be playing close to tuning and thus needs the excursion capabilty to produce even output at certain frequencies
It also seemed very clear that this guy wasn't all that concerned with output so why worry so much about cone area when it's possible to get very loud with even a 10" sub?
i was just contrasting the 2 subs
He should choose the sub that best fits what he wants for his application.
agreed, i never said the W6 is right for him, just that it is capable to beat the gti in SQ and SPL
