It baffles me

Is the JL 1000/1 even any good? I havent seen that in person. I was curiouse because I know a guy selling one for $450. I was thinking about picking it up if its even any good

I don't sell JL, but I will say this. The 1000/1 is an outstanding amp.

When you are dealing w/ an active load (anything audio) having constant power above your nominal DC resistance is always a good thing!

Show me an amp that will do 1000w+ @ 4ohm (regardless of price) and still be 1.5ohm stable...then talk about the 1000/1.

THEN...and ONLY THEN...talk about price.

When I was younger if you wanted 2500 rms it was 1200-1500.
When I was young a 50 watt amp was really 1500 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/sneaky.gif.7189749b3a3f769e8815b47e8ae87f88.gif

internet boom killed the local shop... it really did. thats why it is near impossible to find QUALITY shops anymore. SOO much different than when some of us were coming up
So true, I'm glad I sold out back in '04. If I would have even waited another year I would have taken a huge loss I think.

I was mostly looking at this from an online shop point of view. I know as a shop you and the supplier have to make a profit. I don't visit many shops simply because I've never had any outstandingly good experiences with them. I just hope you don't charge your customers 1500 dollars for a 3500w amp.

After reading this post...I see that you have TOTALLY missed my whole point in this debate.

I agree.

Too many shops have gone to crap brands and crap service.

Here at the shop, we strive to stay clear of such things.

Go back to my GM analogy, it explains everything.

Good shops carrying good brands SHOULD offer good service/installs. This, intern, means less equipment failures.

For instance, some one online orders a 3000wrms amp and tries to run it on a stock electrical...low and behold, the amp fries. Now, the (uninformed) customers suddenly thinks "brand-X must be crap, I spent all this $ on the amp and it fired!!!".

(mainly because his buddy that 'knows everything about car audio' told him every amp should be bridged)

***if you work at an audio shop, you know 'that guy'***

Now, had they gone to a reputable shop, they would have been offered a proper charging system to support the amp. And....magically, no fried amp.

Thus, fewer returns for the Manu and less headache for the customer. Piece of mind and proper installation and knowledge costs $ though.

it's sad too, to see what RF has come to in the past few years... the huge difference in the current situation, and how they started out (back when there were just "fosgate" amps that is)... but thats a whole other thread
recently i have started collecting old school fosgate stuff, and it really is built heavy duty, and made to last the years.

Dont know how many on this forum will actually get this reference, but ****... i miss those days bro...

i wish i would have been around for those days, and i would still love to have a couple of the old "underrated" amps for the new power ratting cap that meca is putting in.

I was told over Christmas by my 10 year old daughter that I need to start coloring my hair. She said the grey is starting to show through now....then she paused.....and said...well if you wait a little longer you won't have to worry about most of your hair will you?

Theres a RF amp at our pawn america in burnsville that is a massive red thing. Idk what model it is. Neither did the people that work there lol. Im assuming it was an older 4000 to 4500? They wanted 699 for it
RF did not really have all red amps that I can recall. Most of their early amps were all black..then silver with gold end caps also had red/grey. Then on to other crap models after that.
