Thank you in advance for any advice you can give.

Hi all,

First of all, I should state that I am a rookie when it comes to car-audio. I have owned a couple of systems in my lifetime, but by no means are they monster systems, or they made me a buff!

I am looking to buy a used system that is for sale here in my city, and it sounds extremely good, but how do I know if it is worth it?

The system is custom built (big) ported box for 2 12" AVI subs. 1x2ch PG XS2500 and 1x4ch PG XS4300, PG line driver, PG Zero Pt fuse, PG switch box and XSC10 Capacitor.

I know (I saw the receipts) that the person paid well over $3000 for the items listed above, and he is willing to take $500 for it!

How can I tell if there is something wrong with it? how do you guys buy used? If you hook it up and it works, does this mean that every thing is in "GOOD" condition?

If it was over worked and pushed hard with that person, but it still works, what does that mean?

I can take it to my car-stereo-install guy and to AVI themselves it need be, but I want to know what to look for and what to do to make sure that what I am buying is not going to stop working the day after I buy it!!!

Thanks

Fresh.

i my self am vary opposed to used. u are about to pay 500 or a used system. for 500 thats a good start ona brand new system. and if that 3000 was retail he prolly got ripped off. i have an all kenwood system and kenwood prices all my pieces at approx 3975. thats for 969 hu (awome) 7x10 3 ways, 6.5 components, 810d mono sub amp, 521 2 channel for front and rear, sirius tuner, the new srx40 antenna, and cx910 keg (my baby). i forget two 1225 subs to. i paid no more than 2200 for all of it brand new.

to my point now is i reomend getting them online, but only form an authorized dealer, theyll usually say if they are but u can even email the brands to inquire for safty. when u buy new from an authorized dealer u get a chance to register ur product. DO IT. i had a probllem with my hu but since i registerd it kenwood fixed it for alomost free. getting things fixed is very expensive, kenwoods authorized repairhop charges normally 35$ base fee + labor and ridulously priced parts.the total was like 185 but all i had o pay was the 35 base cause i registered it adn bought it form a authorized dealer.

if ur system busts ur out 500 dollars. im an aerospace engineer studen 2nd yea and one of the first things we learn is that all mechanical and elctrical parts are gurenteed to fail. it ur call though

for 500 u gcould get a nice hu and som comp, or an amp and sub adn u are halfway there.

as another side note i recomend everyone to get satelite radio. u will never go back

Sounds like a good deal, does he still have this hooked up? Anyway you can have a listen? Your always taking a chance when you buy used. Personally, I don't buy used. I rather ebay it up then buy used. You could get an awesome system for a few hundred more. Say $900 and it would be brand new. $200 HU, $300 amps, $200 subs, $200 comps. And ofcourse you don't need to buy everything at once. Maybe just buy the HU and comps now, then after xmas or whenever you get extra money keep adding to it.

But for $500 is does sound tempting.

same with the $3000.

Though our dollar doesn't **** that much as it usually does anymore.

$500 is a good deal, as long as you have heard it to make sure everything works. If you know a good friend who is good with audio, get him to check it out as well.
