Is there really such a thing as SQ subs?

I have tested several times the effect of useing a subsonic filter at different levels and slopes, personally I find there to be a... well hard to describe. Kind of like a low level presence, not so much somthing that I hear but feel when leaving frequencies below 25hz in place.. whatever it is I like music much better this way IMO

My AA poly mids play down to 30hz at decent volumes and are crossed over at 50hz with a high pass filter with a 6dB slope.
Don't forget that the environment plays a huge role in frequency response.

However, I now have a sub getting about 100 watts and it sounds much better than the 6.5s trying to dig down deep. Do I need the sub? No. Does it help with the sound quality and range of my system? Yes.

Oh, and I bet you couldn't name a single rap song that has noticeable content at 20hz. I do know songs that do but none of them are rap.
lil wyte-hoods run down. It has the bass check at the beginning and drops to 15hz

speaking on this topic.....I just listened to hoods run down on my in 20$ in ear koss headphones and it plays every low note with authority(the lowest note has some distortion) And they can't even be bigger than my rainbow tweets

All types of music consist of frequencies in the full audible range and below even. Most times there is not enough presence to notice it, but according to Goldwave's frequency chart all types of music that I mess with consist of frequencies down into the 20 and 10 cycle range. But they may have a -60 db presence but it's still there. Rap music is one of the few genres that frequently increases the presence of these low notes, but nonetheless they are present in most songs. This is because most instruments and vocals do not consist of just one tone. they are a blend of many tones. A guitar riff may peak at 900Hz, but consist of tones from 12Hz all the way up to 4800Hz. Do you get it? A sub that is properly tuned will still be moving and adding to the music even if you are listening to a song like "Hey There Delilah" or Gary Jules "Mad World."

You can't have a true SQ setup IMO without a sub-bass presence. Just like you can't have true SQ without a midrange presence or a presence for the Highs.

As far as a good SQ woofer, I wouldn't have any experience with one and anything I say might as well be labeled Heresy... but I'd look at the SoundSplinter Rl-p's...

If so I have those too and yeah they do dig all the way down, I highly recommend them FTW as far as money to preformance goes u cant beat it for 15 bucks, my only issue with them has been the little foam thingys come off alot after a while even though they are made to so you can replace them, they dont need replacing that often, still didnt keep me from getting 2 more pairs when I lost the foam thingy
