is my amp to weak?

its 500rms.. that doesnt mean its ganna always put out 500.. rms is the avg right? that means it is anywhere from 0-500
its not exactly average. It means its the most the amp can do with a certain ohm load given a certain qtc. Some are under-rated, some are overrated. it also depends on how you have your gains and how high your turn up your radio. I mean according to your logic, if you're running an SQ setup, pushing 500W RMS to a sub that needs 500W RMS, then you'll lose SQ unless you've got it turned all the way up to 500W to your sub, right? Meaning that at 1/2 volume, you're going to lose SQ.

You also might want to ask yourself what RMS is and how they find it for a sub.

i think the reviews that the people gave just mean that they are enjoying their system... i also enjoy my system but it seems like i keep getting bashed just for likeing my own system.... its not like i got ripped off when i made the trade i got money back too(as i mentined a long time ago)... what is so wrong with my set up? are u saying its not going to hit hard?
Not as hard as it could have.

And i'm not arguing that your setup is bad. I'm arguing that the REASON you traded was.

i understand how u concluded this but... my subs dont have a 500 rms.. they have a 600.. each has a 300 but im powering both of them with the same amp... i have heard that JL underrates its subs.. meaning they can each probly put out 350-400 rms... same with the amps... it can probly out out 550-600 watts.. but going by what the box specs say.. i have a 500rms amp that will be powering 2 300 rms subs

YOUR SUBS DO NOT PUT OUT POWER, you keep going back to that and you've been corrected a number of times.

The whole point of you looking up the RMS for a sub was that you'd find out, for the most part, it doesn't mean jack. Its not an exact number. Haven't you noticed it only has one significant digit...two at most? why isn't RMS 536.2345234?? It's a generalization.

And trust me your box does not say you're giving both your subs 500W, if they're claming that you have no impedance rise in that box, they're lying.

And if you are saying that your amp can do more than 500, then the W7 is an even better fit, right?

How about this...

Amp....puts out power at certain ohm load

Sub....needs power to make sound, has a certain impedance (ohm load) and if you put too much power to it, you'll generate too much heat, and it will burn up.

And once again i challenge you to explain to me why underpowering a sub (not clipping) will reduce your SQ

since u do know more about car audio then me i can only assume that ur right about this.. but sayin that the trade has already been made.. so now lets talk about what i have now... do u think my subs are going to be damaged?

no, you keep arguing that the w3s are going to sound better than the w7 purely because your RMS is closer. I don't think anyone has said you have a bad system

no that arguement was between u and some other person on this fourm last night.. i have never actaully said it would sound better.... im just trying to make a point that what i have will sound good

past is past.. what i would like to concentrate on is which amp/speakers i should get.. i want something crisp an clean sounding... im thinking about an JL 300/4 to power the speakers

i do not keep acting like im trying to inform anyone.. im simply letting u know why i choose to make my trade.. i am more then happy with my setup right now so u can stop with the bashing... plus i know that underpowering a sub will not hurt it.. but it will not sound like its supposed to sound
i don't feel like digging deeper for the other stuff.

anyway, sure your subs can get damaged...i don't know if they will, not even sure what you mean really. Set your gains properly, get a custom enclosure if it were me(for extra and better output), some grills so that flying bobby hats don't hit your carbon fiber dustcap and sound like a snare drum //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

set your gains right and sure. Once again, RMS doesn't really mean all that much. My orion has a RMS of 1200W and my sub's RMS is 800W. I even set the gains to 1200. She's still going strong after stinking for a little while cause impedance rise has my back.

Set the gains to give you 500W, and let them go.

Rockguy, you'll be doing great with that 500/1 and the pair of 12W3's. If you want them to get off, slap them in the 5' net enclosure with a 75" vent 16" long. I guarantee they'll beat your *ss to sleep for 500w worth of input.
