i have a 12 in.W7 and a 500/1 JL audio amp for it... the amp has a 500 RMS or thats what it says on the box but i have heard that JL under rates its amps RMS and that they normally put out about 50-100 more then what the box says... meaning mine would put out anywhere from 550-600 watts RMS... my sub has a 750 RMS.. i know that my amp isnt as great as the 1000/1 model but i have a ported box so the sound should be loud right??? basicly what im asking is, is it ok for me to use the 500/1 JL amp for my 12in W7...... also i have a car not SUV although my trunk is pretty large for a car trunk size

It should do just fine. You could have also gotten a bigger amp for what you paid for that JL if you got it at a dealer and still had money left over.

yea your probly right... i ended up buying the sub amp and box all at the same time which cost me 1,300 excactly.... i do kinda agree that the 1000/1 would have been a better buy but when i think about it 500-600 RMS in a ported box in a trunk still has to have some kick in it

Well at least you got a warranty, I hope! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif Besides if you ever want to upgrade from that amp you can pretty much sell it and get your money back, JL has insane resale value.

i think i fixed my prob/question.. i went and traded in the w7 and box for it, for 2 12in. w3v2 with a custum w3v2H.O Wedge JL box.. kept my 500/1 amp though... i should be good to go now

well a w6 puts out 400 rms and my 2 12 w3v2 will put out 600 in total.. plus the guy gave me cash along with the trade.... but i think my box alone cost like 300 bucks.. its one of the custom JL ones

its not custom its a prefab that jl makes, subs dont put out watts the amp does...

reason i traded in the w7 is bc my amp is only puttin out 500 rms and the w7 rms was 750... i think ill be fine now since imma have 600 rms in a car trunk.. 04 malibu to be excact

Your subs don't "put out" any power, you do realize this?
yes of course but my amp was not puttin out enough power to put out what a w7 needs... its perfect for what i have now though... i ment that my subs can handle 600 rms.. i didnt mean put out
