Is a cap right for me?

A capacitor is NEVER right for ANYONE.

Assuming you have a strong electrical system already wouldn't a cap be useful for keeping the voltage steady on long drawn out bass notes? I thought alot of SQ competitiors have caps for that reason.

You lose.

First of all, any "SQ competitor" that plays long, drawn out bass notes isn't going to score very well at all...

Secondly, capacitors aren't designed for long, continous (sp) discharge. They discharge almost instantaneously, put a screwdriver across the terminals to see what I mean.

The fact of the matter is that the power needs to come from somewhere, and that *somewhere* happens to be the thing that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy - the alternator.
