Interesting Problem...

I recently picked up a Dual XPA4640 600 watt amp from my friend. She claimed it works, and I do take her word for it. I had a 300 watt amp installed in my car before, with the exact same wiring hookups. I hooked it all up, and decided to even find a better grounding location for the grounding wire. I sanded down a peice of the body metal and connected it. I connected the 4 gauge 12+V wire, remote wire, and ground wire. I quickly looked at the power light, and it was in protect mode, and dimmed down and went off after about two seconds. I tested the 12+v lead w. a meter, and no voltage was running across it, but there was a 12v reading from the remote still. I replaced all the fuses already, tried it again, same thing. Any Ideas? Can post pics if nesc.

Do you have everything hooked up? RCAs speaker wires and speakers all dat stuff ? the reason I asked is because some amps really don’t like not having the speaker wires hooked up.

I replaced the fuses because a bunch of people have already told me that sometimes you can blow a fuse, and it wont appear blown. I tested the fuses and they are carrying a current, so they are working. And I've tried hooking up the RCA cables, but it was grounding through the RCA cables. I have a fierce LOC, and i hooked up the white and grey wires to the correct speaker wires -/+ respectively. There are two brown wires, which i was assuming were grounding cables.

test your fuses while they are hooked up with a test light not a multimeter. hook the clamp onto a good earth and then trace the voltage from the battery along your 12v+ cable all the way to the amp.

e.g. check battery post > battery terminal > fuse input > fuse output > amplifier 12v+ terminal and rem terminal.

if at any of these points the test light doesnt light up you fault is between there and the last point that lit the test light.

hope this helps.

Tom.
