Installed alternator...

I just installed an iraggi alternator and have a couple questions. I did buy a new belt, but Dom said running a half inch short would be slightly better, but it didn't fit, so I ran my original belt. Everything seems fine except when my car idles, it switches from like 600-900-1000 rpms some, and the humming changes tone a little, I didn't know if this was normal. The alt I just put in has a slightly smaller pulley, but Autozone said it should be fine. Also, my voltage drops slightly, from 14.44v to 14.1v when driving and idling but dont' know why this would be happening. My alt idles at 170 amps and maxes at 220 amps. Is it possible my belt isn't letting my alt idle at 170 amps? Or is 600-1000 enough to give it 170 amps to idle? Thanks.

dude i jus installed mines and it sounds like a GM supercharger, kinda weird. mines is steady at 14v at idle highest ive seen it was around 14.2 wit a little gas havent tested it while driving have to actually install my voltage meter to check that, ive seen my idle around 900rpms

it must be iraggi week //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i just got mine intalled the other day, and just got done putting my system back in tonight, and it BEATS! Wow. I refrain any prior comment i made on this forum about type-x's not getting loud. My old alt/wiring setup was doing my equipment 0 justice.

As for your weird idle, what kind of car is it?

I know with my audi, any time you disconnect the battery, you need to do a throttle body position sensor calibration with a laptop.

Do you know if your car uses an idle stabilizer valve, or if the idle is electronically controlled? That wouldn't have anything to do with the belt, i can't imagine.

1997 ford explorer sport 4.0L V6 SOHC or whatever. One other thing, when I was installing my HC2400 in the rear, my positive touched my negative (shorted) and sparks shot and my positive has a black mark on the ring terminal but the fuse didn't pop and everything seems ok. My ground was disconnected on my front batt, and the hc2400 wasn't hooked up at the time. Nothing could have been damaged could it, if nothing was hooked up?

It couldn't have damaged anything but the battery, if nothing else was hooked up. Just for grins, try disconnecting the 2nd battery, and see if your idle and your voltage are still acting nutty.

If your idle becomes fine, and your voltage stabilizes, have the batt. tested.

If you blew a cell, it may be showing your alternator a constant load, like it's trying to charge, but never actually does.

I hope with 3200-3600 ish watts I can maintain 13-14v while beating on the streets. I am willing to do anything to get my voltage in the 14s constant. I think grounding everything to my front battery will help. Also, what does grounding your engine block to your chassis do? thanks.

yeah mine whines alot too, if you have a pulley thats a half inch smaller then get a belt that a half inch shorter adn so forth that will fix your problem the people at autozone that told you that it will be ok are idiots

for one thing never listen to Autozone they dont know anything about high output alternators, listen to dom you need the shorter belt to spin the alt at a faster pace, why wouldnt the shorter belt not fit??? Actually just measure the diameter of the stock pulley and than measure the iraggi pully's diameter and subtract the 2 and get a belt that much shorter from your stock belt, that will solve your problems:D

My pulley on dom's alt was 3/8" smaller, but autozone only had a belt 1/2" shorter and there was no way in hell it was going to fit. I just put my original belt on there and it's taut (spelling)? Should I still search around for a smaller belt? What will be the benefit?

mine also whines and noticed belt dust too. Tightend it up goes away for a couple of days and comes back. I dont want to keep tightning it cause itll do damage to the alts bearing, i think 1 of my batts is going I have to test them this weekend.

i got mine at advance autoparts, the people in my town at autozone are idiots htey brought me the belt that goes on my car and said it was a half inch shorter, i told her(her...figures) she was retarded and went to advance they told me how long of a belt my car(95 maxima) was soposed to have and they got me one that was a half inch shorter

why wont it fit??? you should have around 3" to play with, at least my car does, dont you have a bracket where the alt is mounted to that you can adjust it or slide the alt up or down??

i went to advanced auto and had no problems finding a shorter belt:D
