In-line fuse blown. Amp not working.

It was a hot day(not up loud) 15 seconds after turning on then the bass just shut off. The in-line fuse(40a) was blown. Maybe shorted somehow? I replaced the entire fuse terminal. Now the amp seems to do nothing, Both fuses on the amp are not blown. Should i double check the new fuse terminal? and does it matter if i'm using a 40amp fuse or 80amp?

The one I had used a fuse that I could not find. It was fuse that was ONLY used for that exact terminal(retarded yes). So I bought a new terminal that used a fuse that was more widely used.

good 4ga can handle 100a, but I dont know why you would want a 40a fuse in there. I could be mistaken, but I believe fuses are meant to pop at 150% of rated, which for a 40a fuse would be 60a of current
